Re: any news?

He stated on his blog that he has four (!) unpublished manuscripts queued up and is looking for an agent, but that was a while ago and the situation may have changed—or so I hope, anyway.

Some short stories of his have appeared in recent big-name anthologies (Cinnabar's Gnosis, Joshi's Black Wings, Datlow's Lovecraft Unbound), none of which I have read.

Edit: That would be Black Wings, not Dark Wings.

Re: any news?

I just finished "Lovecraft Unbound" - Cisco's story is "Machines of Concrete Light and Dark", about 17 pages. Believe it or not, I had never read any of his work before, and I thought the story was pretty good. There are only a few stories in the anthology that I didn't like very much, and only a few that I greatly enjoyed. Most were solidly in the "good" category for me, including this one.

"The San Veneficio Canon" has been on my Amazon Wish List for over a year, and I look forward to reading it one day!

Re: any news?

The San Veneficio Canon is pretty astounding work, with "The Divinity Student" being the better of the two parts. I also have a couple of odd collections of his short stories, but they're much different from his longer works I saw his blog posts, but yeah the last one was posted quite some time ago. I hope he is able to find an agent soon

Re: any news?

The Tyrant is my favorite Michael Cisco work. I prefer his longer work than his shorter work.

A couple of collections? I was only aware of one short story collection: Secret Hours. What am I missing?

There are many recent and forthcoming publications now listed on Cisco's blog, including two forthcoming novels.

Re: any news?

Information about Cisco's forthcoming novel The Narrator, including an excerpt and the beautiful cover art, can be found here:
http://copingmechanisms.net/?page_id=148

Here is something from the excerpt that I especially liked:

"There it is, the flame. I will think, which necessarily means I will think obsessively, about this flame.

Is it there?

What is there?

Is it there the way an object is there every moment, considering that it is not exactly an object but a procedure?

Or an exhalation?

Are all things like flames, in that they only seem to be as it were stable entities because, after all, itís always the same name, more or less, more or less the same, used for them? I mean, it must be something stable because I keep on recognizing it and calling it that, this time, another time, over and over, but then again how can I know that I am recognizing, and not just sort of improvising with myself? Or repeating myself?"

Re: any news?

Michael also has an omnibus due out next year, and from Centipede Press no less.

There are few writers working today who can equeal Michael Cisco's vision or his feats of prose.

Best,
Richard

I'm doing art for the Michael Cisco collection being published by Centipede Press next year, looking forward to it.
