Re: Catholic Corner pt II

Quick question. What are the conditions under which a Catholic marriage would be annulled? (Don't worry, it's just for a story.)

Declaration of nullity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Re: Catholic Corner pt II

Am I right in thinking a Catholic couple could get divorced but would still be considered married in the eyes of the church unless they got the annulment? If so how would a divorced Catholic be treated by the local church?

Re: Catholic Corner pt II

I am not sure about that. I believe that if someone is divorced and wish to remarry through the Church they must get the annulment, but I am not sure if it is necessary if they are not planning to remarry through them.

Re: Catholic Corner pt II

Would the divorce be something the divorcee have to chat about in the confessional booth? Someone told me that the divorce might be denied the sacrament at mass. Anyone know if that's right?

Re: Catholic Corner pt II

Divorce is not recognized by the Catholic Church. So, if someone remarried after a divorce and lived , as the used to say, as man and wife the Catholic or Catholics in that marriage would be committing adultery, which is a grave sin. Communion could be refused since you are not supposed to receive communion if you are under the stigma of a really serious sin. Annulment is nothing like divorce. One or both parties have to enter the marriage under false pretenses or something serious like spousal abuse or child abuse has to occur.I forget the verse but in the gospel of Matthew Christ is quoted as saying something like marriage is between a man and a woman and it is for life. That's why all of the mainstream Christian churches believe marriage is for life with no divorce - and no same sex marriage. When Christ is specifically quoted the Catholic Church takes these quotes very seriously.
