Ilsa, She- Wolf of the SS

It may not be the first (that dubious honor would seem to belong to 1969’s Love Camp 7), but Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS is almost certainly the most notorious of the concentration camp porn-violence movies. You might think that certain things would be in such obviously bad taste that nobody would dare make an exploitation movie about them, and that the Holocaust would stand right at the top of that list. You’d be wrong. Love Camp 7 and its descendants shamelessly use the Final Solution as an excuse to show beautiful, naked girls being tortured to death by sexual sadists, and the most incredible thing about these movies is that— far from being a handful of isolated outbursts of grotesquerie— they constituted an entire genre, and were produced steadily and continuously for most of a decade. Sometimes, the emphasis is more on the sex, sometimes it’s more on the violence, and sometimes— as in Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS— it’s about a 50-50 split.

Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS is almost totally devoid of plot. Ilsa (Dyanne Thorne, from Blood Sabbath and The Swinging Barmaids) is the commandant-doctor of Medical Camp 9, a concentration camp devoted to the sort of ghastly and pointless medical “experiments” made famous by Dr. Josef Mengele. In addition to her officially sanctioned work on epidemiology, the mass sterilization of the “inferior races,” and other similar enterprises, Ilsa uses the resources of Medical Camp 9 to conduct some private research of her own. It is her belief that women are far more resistant to pain than men (she’s right, incidentally), and that the Third Reich would be wise to start using female soldiers as shock troops. She means to prove her theories by torturing her female inmates to death, and making note of how much damage they can withstand before their nervous systems give out. Meanwhile, her male inmates divide their time between slave labor during the day and sexual slavery by night. Every couple of days, Ilsa will call a man to her bedroom; those who fail to satisfy her (and that’s just about all of them) end up castrated, fully emasculated, or dead, depending on the thoroughness of their failure.

Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS features Dyanne Thorne in the role that made her an exploitation queen of sorts (and at the age of 42!). Dyanne Thorne holds attention on screen through the very domineering presence of her character. And to give the film credit, it at least gives her some character development – even if it only the rather sexist cliche of the cruel and sexually insatiable woman in power who is ultimately tamed by a man and whose lust proves her undoing.

(Dictated while taking a stroll) I have come to realizewhat a superbly contrived marionette man is. Though without strings attached, one can strut, jump, hop and, moreover, utter words, an elaborately made puppet! Who knows? At the Bon season next year, I may be a new dead invited to the Bon festival. What an evanescent world! This truth keeps slipping off our minds.

Tobias, that picture made me laugh, on a Monday morning. I thank you.

Admittedly, when I first saw the post, I thought you were picking on OUR Ilsa for some reason.

I must admit, your categoric knowledge of really cheesy old films seems to be illimitable. So, have you seen THE LOST EMPIRE, with Raven de la Croix?

Re: Ilsa, She- Wolf of the SS

I believe that they actually filmed Ilsa on the same set as Hogan's Heroes too. I have seen this, and I think that it emphasizes more on the violence than the sex.

you're probably right...but as i am slightly conservative when it comes to sex scenes in films, less are even more to me...;)

Re: Ilsa, She- Wolf of the SS

There were 2 sequels in which Ilsa was the tigress of Siberia and keeper of the oil sheik's harem.

Years later, Jess Franco brought Ilsa back as the "wicked warden" with a South American setting. Ilsa did a bit of globe trotting!

Then, Tobias, I'm sure you will be thrilled to know that Quentin Tarantino doing THIS:

'Pulp Fiction' director Quentin Tarantino has reportedly offered Britney Spears a leading role in his new movie, a remake of a the 1965 cult classic 'Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!'.

According to The Telegraph, Spears is set to play the role of lesbian dancer Varla in the film.

A source is quoted as saying: "Quentin is convinced Britney will be brilliant. She's delighted. She thinks it could turn her career around.

"It is perfect Tarantino material. He wanted to get Britney first. She's playing the most important character."

Reportedly, Spears' will be seen murdering another character with her bare hands, before engaging in sex scenes with another female character. "

I'm sure it will be slightly LESS than conservative!

Re: Ilsa, She- Wolf of the SS

that would ruin another great film...as if Britney Spears could play the part of 'Tura Satana' (one of my favorite actresses of the 60's & 70's)

i wasn't too impressed by Kill Bill either, in fact it was just a remake of this/ these film(s)
there's a sequel I didn't present

http://www.ligotti.net/showthread.ph...ight=snowblood

so far Tarantino's best film remains 'Reservoir Dogs'...

(she's definitely a million times cooler than any girl of the cast of 'Death Proof')

Re: Ilsa, She- Wolf of the SS

to close the circle between interactions of 70's early exploitation (in this case Ilsa) and Quentin Tarantino...Rob Zombie produced a faux trailer which is a bow before those Ilsa films:

although the other faux trailers are also nice, maybe i'll use them sometime in future

You are totally correct about the Zombie film Werewolf Women of the S.S.
As far as Britney in Tura's legendary role Deathproof reminded me a bit of a Russ Meyer film minus the boobs. If Faster Pussycat was made later, it would of had them too. However, if any film director could turn her career around, it would be a plum role that he hand picked for her. but still this meaningless remake machine has to end. The one that bugs me personally is Hellraiser. Leave another classic alone.
