Author Earnings Website

Author Earnings is a website which analyzes publishing in a scientific way. I consider that website much more informative than some article which defines self publishing success as selling a million ebooks.

Here is the recent report from the website:

Here's a good response to that silly anti-Amazon article which appeared in the Huffington Post:

I see this site often quoted, yet it never gets around to delivering actual author earnings in any sort of satisfactory manner.

Rather it points out that a horde of amateurs producing a nonstop deluge of literary product can sell twice as many units for half as
much money as the Big-5 publishers.

I 42% : B5 23%

I 23% : B5 40%
/shrug

As to the average income of those countless amateur producers of content?
No number is ever given.

This article suggests a third of published authors make less than $500 a year. It puts the median annual income of 'traditionally published' authors somewhere around $3,000–$4,999.

It goes on to state:

Quote
Overall, half of the writers – traditional and independent – surveyed this year earned $1,000– $2,999 or less. At the top end, almost 10% earned $100,000 or more, with 4.1% earning $250,000 or more.
Even these numbers are pulled from self-reported data and surveys. It's hard to get an actual idea of how many indie authors are successful and what they earn. All the data seems to lean the same way though - the vast majority of indie authors will not be making a living self-publishing.

And that's ok.
The vast majority of football players will never make a dime at it.
(Because the vast majority will never be in the NFL)
