Re: Favorite Movies

I will probably continue editing this because I have a lot on my to watch list:

Zerkalo - Andrei Tarkovsky (#1 film -- the entirety of existence is reflected in this)
Melancholia - Lars von Trier
Ikiru - Akira Kurosawa
The Virgin Spring - Ingmar Bergman
Fanny and Alexander (TV version) - Ingmar Bergman
Au Hasard Balthazar - Robert Bresson
Taste of Cherry - Abbas Kiarostami
Cure - Kiyoshi Kurosawa
Nosferatu: The Vampyre - Werner Herzog
Blue Velvet - David Lynch
The Shining - Stanley Kubrick
Amour - Michael Haneke
Alien - Ridley Scott

I also enjoy many heart-warming, congenial films like Pixar and Studio Ghibli, but I shall spare you that list, considering the general theme of this forum.

Re: Favorite Movies

I can create a list of my favorite films easily enough, but it always strikes me, no matter how good a new film is or what brilliant new directors I discover, I will always have Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver as my number one favorite film. I watch it several times a year, and each time is like watching it for the first time, being marveled by the intricacies of Travis’ personality, his anger towards society and the glorious shots of nighttime New York during the seventies accompanied by Bernard Herrmann’s wonderful Jazz score.

"Perhaps one suffers in the tomb. There are corpses that have strange grimaces on their faces when they’re disinterred, as if they remember down there all the filth of this life." - Jean Lorrain, The Soul-Drinker
