Re: Using Architecture To Explain 16 Mental Illnesses And Disorders

Very nice. I found an art exhibition called "Madness & Modernity" featuring mental asylums, psychiatric hospitals...

Some pieces from the exhibit:

Hell on Earth in the Tower of Fools: based on the Pathological Anatomical Museum in the Madhouse Tower (below).

taken from this site Madness and Modernity: Mental Illness and the Visual Arts in Vienna 1900 - All In The Mind - ABC Radio National (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Inside the exhibit

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."

Re: Using Architecture To Explain 16 Mental Illnesses And Disorders

Thank you for the videos. I consider myself a failed architect; even though I hold a bachelors degree -and en even better masters degree- from a good university, for several reasons, mainly my own personal failings, I've been unable to practice as one. Most of my experience as an architect has been in the vacuous office spaces of large multinational construction firms, where all kinds of devils live, and these spaces could very well be used as spatial examples of various states of mind.

Anyway, people die...

I am simply an accident. Why take it all so seriously?
