Mostly anti-Scientology stuff: Going Clear (2013) by Lawrence Wight and The Unbreakable Miss Lovely (2015) by Tony Ortega. Both recommended!

I reread some of Ligotti's stories: The Frolic, The Nightmare Network, The Red Tower, My Work is Not Yet Done, I Have a Special Plan for This World, My Case for Retributive Action, Our Temporary Supervisor and The Town Manager.

His corporate horror stories are amazing.

Yesterday I read the story that I believe got a place among my top 5 TL stories.I had not read it before yesterday but it is in the Penguin edition. It is "Christmas Eves of aunt Elise. " It really sets the mood and it helps that I identify with those type of Christmas Eve, specially as a child with my entire family. Setting the usual awkwardness of celebrating the birth of baby Jesus aside. It really hints at the fact there might be some reality of layered misery in the protagonist's life that we do not completely know about. Specially when he describes the absurd wrapping of his gift and the bears dreaming...

The story goes relatively straight to the point. You do not know you are you. Tell the entire story old jack...

The description of the different reality outside the old man's house, the CRYING SHADOWS really got to me. Why do they cry? I really dont want to know...

Another phrase: Knocking a door on a house that is not there just builds under the assumption that this might be a reality of interpolated views of horrors. Uncanny structures laying a trap that already has sprung around us.

The ending is special in its own, because I am not used to Tom's antagonists to express maliciousness so openly. I might want to check that out a bit closer.

I am currently reading Sick Little Monkeys: The Unauthorized Ren & Stimpy Story by Thad Komorowski. Apparently, a revised edition will be published next year with introductions by John Kricfalusi and Billy West. I can't help it; I love John K's work.

Deciding that I wanted to read H. P. Lovecraft's "Pickman's Model" in ye second volume of COLLECTED FICTION: A VARIORUM EDITION, I did so to-night; & then I follow'd ye reading instantly with a rereading of Caitlin R. Kiernan's "Pickman's Other Model (1929)" in BLACK WINGS. Lovecraft's tale, with which I am obsess'd, held my keen attention throughout. Some have criticized its ending as "predictable" rather than being a "surprise ending"; but I do not think that Lovecraft had any interest in "surprise" endings, but rather in endings that were confirmations. Caitlin's sequel is magnificent; and reading it to-night I notic'd that it seems delicately crafted in regard to narrative voice, in that the tone of language seems of a bygone era--indeed, of the year in which ye story is set. And yet, aspects of her story--perhaps I am thinking moftly of ye sexuality that is hinted within it--seems modern. And that made me remember that Lovecraft's tale is a very MODERN horror story, set in ye age in which it was written; and that its modernity is an important element in the way the story then evokes the darkness of ye past.

I was inspir'd to reread the tales because I have done yet another slight revision of the one new story I have penned for my forthcoming Centipede Press book--a story I have entitl'd "Pickman's Lazarus", and ye first portion of which is set during Pickman's lifetime.

I am ending to-night's reading by delving into The Notebooks of Henry James.

I just finished reading Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov, and have started Queer by William S. Burroughs.

Alongside these I have been reading the ghostly short fiction of Vernon Lee, which is impressing me immensely.
