An Apology for Suicide

Who has written it? Nobody. Why not? Don't ask me.

Re: An Apology for Suicide

The late frontman of Mayhem's suicide note included an apology for discharging a firearm in the house. I doubt the sincerity of this, since he discharged the weapon in the house anyway. suicidal individuals tend to look at death as a solution - if they're sorry for anything, it's for all the all the hassle they have caused and are still causing, and their passing is meant to fix that. One of my favorite satirists has remarked that the best thing for a suicidal person to do is wait, for two reasons.

1) if they're so inept at life the world would be better off without them, odds are they'd just screw up the suicide attempt as well and wind up alive but hospitalized, causing more of the hassle they're trying to stop causing.

2) it's not like anyone's immortal. Their best bet, if they sincerely long for an end, is to sit back and let God, Cthulhu, the Great Black Swine, the All-Moving Darkness, luck, fate, biology, or any number of other possible causes of death that are already working on their demise finish their work. These forces are professionals - they've been ending human lives for much longer than the suicidal individual has, they have more experience, and know how to make sure a person stays dead, so the suicidal person should sit back, try to enjoy themselves, and wait their turn.

The same sentiment is ehcoed in Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a fine work of paranoid pessimistic fiction, as the institutionalized narrator comments on news of a suicide in a different ward.

Bill Hicks, the social commentator and comedian, has also expressed a similar idea with his "it's just a ride" monologue.

the "eyes of love" he mentions are much like Faliol's spectacles in Ligotti's "Masquerade of a Dead Sword." They show everything as equal, springing from and returning to the same source. Whether you call it Tsalal-o-vision or Eyes-o-Love is just a matter of personal preference.

Re: An Apology for Suicide

1) A bullet to the brain is a sure shot.

2) I don't want to end up on Spike TV's '1000 Ways to Die'

3) The ride has made me sick and I want to get off

My eyes see the world and myself in this world as being not alright. How about yours, Dok?

whether or not the world and me in it are alright changes with the scenery on the ride. I just don't get so emotionally invested in it, and know that I'll roll past the not-alright bits and eventually reach the end of the ride. Then I get to find out what's after the ride.

Everything passes, everything ends. I've always liked the fastest and shortest rides.
