Notable Headstones

Georges Rodenbach, 1855-1898

(Dictated while taking a stroll) I have come to realizewhat a superbly contrived marionette man is. Though without strings attached, one can strut, jump, hop and, moreover, utter words, an elaborately made puppet! Who knows? At the Bon season next year, I may be a new dead invited to the Bon festival. What an evanescent world! This truth keeps slipping off our minds.

Re: Notable Headstones

Also in Pere Lachaise Cemetery there's Charles Baudelaire's remarkable monument. Sorry, having trouble posting a photo or link but you can find an image at: Baudelaire's grave

Re: Notable Headstones

For any prospective tourists: Baudelaire is buried in the Cimetiere de Montparnasse not Pere Lachaise.

The wonderful statue illustrated below is actually a monument rather than a tomb as Baudelaire is buried elsewhere in the cemetery in a very drab and nondescript family grave.

two images from the Melaten Cemetery in Cologne:

Re: Notable Headstones

Those Cologne images are very unique. The bottom headstone looks fairly Lovecraftian.

A picture I made at one of the neglected cementaries in my hometown:

If I were to give a title to this picture, it would be "The merciful".
