Recommendations for weird fiction

Something I always recommend to people looking for suggestions is to check out Ellen Datlow and/or Stephen Jones' yearly best-of anthologies (Best Horror of the Year and The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror, respectively).

in trying to think of stuff thats slightly under the radar, particularly in the US (although evensons an american), i came up with these off the top of my head. all are outstanding.

theres a great collection by brian evenson called fugue state.

two collections by Jeremy Dyson, never trust a rabbit and the cranes that build the cranes.

and i always recommend the novels of rupert thomson. all brilliant, but start with something like the five gates of hell to get you in the groove.

I'm not the most well versed in weird tales/cosmic horror, and I think you've already mentioned all of my favorite authors: 1:Poe 2:Lovecraft 3:Ligotti 4:Barron 5:Strantzas 6:Cardin

Of course, there's our own Joe Pulver. His work is out there, but you can't deny there's no one like him. Livia Llewellyn is a great writer just starting to make waves. Very dark and powerful. John Langan is a great wordsmith, and has a hint of the Jamesian (Henry, not Monty). There are a lot of great writers coming out of Britain, too.

I'm going to have to recommend Caitlín R. Kiernan here, especially her novel The Red Tree, and any of her short story collections.

Dyson seems to be curiously neglected in the genre, perhaps because he's better known as a writer with The League Of Gentlemen. Those two collections are excellent. Nice illustrations too.

I'd second Slayn666's rec to check out Ellen Datlow's and Stephen Jones's yearly anthologies. Datlow's current run on The Best Horror of the Year opens with a section reviewing horror/weird fiction that is very extensive.
My own rec's are not really new and idiosyncratic to me alone perhaps. I have a soft spot for Sarban's work and the works of Jean Ray. Obscure and very hard to find but absolutely worth the effort are Bob Leman's "Feester's in the Lake" (Pilgrimage of Clifford M is by far the strongest vampire story in the last half century) and Eddie Angerhuber's "Nocturnal Products."

Don Webb is brilliant, as is our own Matt Cardin. Newcomers Orrin Grey and Daniel Mills have also impressed me a great deal.
