I thought Under the Skin was a instant masterpiece. I really need to rewatch it.

Re: Under the Skin
Something that struck me about the scene after each young man is picked up, where the alien 'seduces' her victims in the dark featureless space. It reminded me of Marcel Duchamp's 'The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Batchelors, Even'. Scarlet is the bride at the top doing her seductive dance, below her an expectant lover is held powerless in her charms and below him is the machine grinding his essence into something sweet. Not sure if this was intended by the film maker but the scene made a strong impression on me.

Re: Under the Skin
Yes. The Film was amazing.
I searched it out to watch it in the theatre because I had enjoyed the book. Then as soon as it came out on DVD I had to get it, fearing it would disappear with as little announcement as the movie release had been given. A unique film flying so far under the radar is such a shame. Even with Johansen looking so great the public and mass media couldn't understand it unless it was a spoon feeding of something they had seen multiple times before.(How Hollywood can get so many people to pay to see the same movie over and over again with different titles is beyond me) Not just TLO'ers but everyone should see this movie. The book is great too, in a somewhat different way. | |||||||||||

Re: Under the Skin
I just watched this movie due to this thread, and it utterly blew my mind. I would also like to recommend Never Let Me Go (2010) and Ex Machina (2015).

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.
