Topic Nominated Political interpretation of horror movie monsters?

6 Mind-Blowing Ways Zombies and Vampires Explain America | Cracked.com

to summarize: republicans see democrats as vampires because they are murderous sexy immigrant parasites. Democrats see republicans as zombies because they are conformist, consumerist evangelists.

I largely agree with these assessments, but i do have a question: what about other horror baddies? werewolves, slashers, cults, tentacled horrors, that all-pervasive darkness that shows up in several Ligotti stories, etc

Re: Political interpretation of horror movie monsters?

Would Frankenstein be a metaphorical expression of E Pluribus Unum?

"What does it mean to be alive except to court disaster and suffering at every moment?"

Tibet: Carnivals?
Ligotti: Ceremonies for initiating children into the cult of the sinister.
Tibet: Gas stations?
Ligotti: Nothing to say about gas stations as such, although I've always responded to the smell of gasoline as if it were a kind of perfume.

The petroleum interests are no doubt represented by The Creature from the Black Lagoon. (I like this game by the way. ;))

Re: Political interpretation of horror movie monsters?

I think slashers are swing voters. I have a few examples.
  • Freddy Kreuger - hunts horny teens (R) but is antagonistic towards traditional family values and small town life (D)
  • Michael Myers - same as freddy
  • Jason Voorhees - hunts horny teens (R), protects the environment (D)
  • Leprechaun - magic killer immigrant (D, based on that cracked article), hoards gold (R, tea party style)
  • Chucky - isn't picky. if it'll bleed, he'll stab it!
  • pinhead - member of a religious order (R), wears fetishwear to work (D)

Mr. Barlow from Salem's Lot would be a decayed Nazi

The entity from “It Follows” is like a politically fixated individual - you have got yourself into trouble by interacting in the first place, make sure you never get into a room with only one door with it or your F====d – and your only hope - just try and pass the big guy on

"Truly, your coquetry will not evoke
Any award that does not do it wrong;
Who of these mortal hearts can grasp the joke?
The charms of horror only suit the strong!"

Re: Political interpretation of horror movie monsters?

Werewolves are the swing voters. I'll leave it up to you to decide how their voting changes as we approach a full moon.

Ghosts are the followers of whatever party has no substance - again you choose which that is.

Animated skeletons I think of as Libertarians as they are all about a framework and you can choose what political "meat" you want to hang around it.

Sasquach and the Loch Ness Monster are third party supporters - you know they are out there but are rarely seen.

Souphead.
