Re: We're Doomed. Now What?
Let me repeat Durrenmatt's remark here:

Re: We're Doomed. Now What?
It seems that the world couldn't be more immersed in doom worship now.
I guess it'd be nice if antinatalism was refined a bit. Do antinatalists want the world to end violently? Do we want a group of elite people to destroy everything? That way the evil survival instinct will perish? Probably not, but one intention tends to meet the other somewhere along the line without meaning to.

Re: We're Doomed. Now What?
The only antinatalist I can speak for on the issue is myself, and for my part I keep telling myself that what I really want is the God of Catharism to come and release me from this gendered, grotesquely erotic heap of meat and slimy tentacles and hairy proboscices that I'm trapped inside and allow me to return to my proper place in the angelic orders in the spiritual realm where I belong and that is my only true home. My soul cries out at every instant 'veni! veni domine Catharorum!' in spite of the fact that -- unlike Simone Weil -- I have no faith in this greatest of all heretical deities, have no faith at all in angels or spirit or gnostic cosmologies. What then do I want? Well, I want to die and yet I want to go on living and suffering, I even want to live on and suffer forever, because even my forlorn state and hopeless desire for salvation is a delight. I'm enchanted by the sacred beauty of the Logos even in its absolute absence and perpetual impossibility and irremediable nonexistence. -- But still it's all too much and the suffering of others is too great. Even the sacred beauty of the Logos isn't enough to save me from the unbearable dread I feel when I think of how shiny and sleek my intestines would be if I opened up my abdomen and brought them out into the light, when I think of how shiny and sleek the surface of my eyeballs are under the light. It's never the membranes themselves that drive a man or woman insane. It's the fact that the membranes are so shiny and sleek. That's what pushes us over the brink. That they're so revoltingly shiny and so sleek. And so I want to nuke the planet.

You won't have to. Probably.
And one would have thought the destructive strain would come from the anti intellectual faction in the US.

Re: We're Doomed. Now What?
Why not? Do you think intellectuals are somehow exempt from feeling the often unbearable weight of the "cross" of becoming and are somehow free from the urge for total annihilation? Thinking doesn't make human life lighter and more easily borne. It doesn't weaken the destructive impulse, the will-to-death. As often as not it strengthens it. Thinking doesn't lead to the end of aggression, since it itself is often a form of and vehicle for aggression.

teguififthzeal, you really enjoy occupying the sanctimonious high ground, don't you?

Speaking for myself, I hope that antinatalism enters mainstream thought as a sort of radical form of humanism and environmentalism, and another Childless Revolution occurs and concludes with the extinction of humanity. |

Could an Economic Collapse be in Our Near Future? If real data continue to follow predicted trends made decades ago, then problems in the near future will involve higher death rates due to lack of food, manufactured goods, and services. The trends do not consider the effects of global warming, which will likely make matters worse. |

Re: We're Doomed. Now What?
It is this kind of information that makes me want to not to leave the house.
Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.
