If 'A Pilgrim Stranger' can have its discrete thread on TLO, so can this off-topic novel entitled CLARK by Brendan Connell (another TLO member).
I deem this book to be one of the literary greats of the 21st century, humorous and poignant, involving a film star of Italian cinema of the mid-century. I found it inspiring.

Of all of BC's work that I have read, I think this is my favourite - a really great statement on the life of an artist.

I'm about halfway through this at the moment and it's unquestionably a major novel that should ideally be getting reviewed by the New York Times and other mainstream outlets. As usual with his books, there's not really much point in comparing it to anything else, although it reminds me a bit of a Nathanael West from another dimension who stuck things out, moved to Italy and pushed himself further than he ever had before while slightly drunk.

Just finished it today. Great novel, entertaining from start to finish. Eric Clark's career moves along with the history of Italian cinema, a subject I'm not very familiar with but the few references I did understand made me smile. Like how the novel touches on the 80s wave of Italian Mad Max knock-offs, the Cannibal Holocaust trial and controversy, or even the asian action films starring Pierre Kirby (complete with the ninja wearing a headband that says "NINJA"). But references are one thing. The actual content is very good. When it's poignant it hits hard; when it's funny it really made me laugh.

It is a shame that Eric Clark is not real. We live in an age when terrible movies like Manos: The Hands of Fate or Mystics in Bali are getting remastered on blu-ray, and popular youtube reviewers like RedLetterMedia or Cinema Snob get their hands on and give exposure to obscure schlock on a regular basis. La vida di Tiburcio Vasquez might've found a small but fervent audience by now.
