Luigi Chiarelli.
Looking up this author on this forum my searches yielded nothing.
Luigi Chiarelli (1880-1947) was an Italian playwright, theatre critic and writer of short stories who is chiefly known as a founder of the teatro grottesco, or Theatre of the Grotesque, after the subtitle of one of his plays. I wonder if this fellow and his plays in particular were an influence on Ligotti and his Teatro Grottesco, although he is not often mentioned. He does not seem to be well-known and his best-known work is perhaps La Maschera e il Volto. Information is very sparse and this is all that I can write of him. Perhaps he is well worth reading. | |||||||||||
I believe in the power of the imagination to remake the world, to release the truth within us, to hold back the night, to transcend death, to charm motorways, to ingratiate ourselves with birds, to enlist the confidences of madmen.
