Being only only half-alive, and not on the signature sheets for reasons outside of my control, I wonder if I will have a horde of clamouring devotee completists demanding my attention.

Unlikely. As ever.

I find it extremely baffling and somewhat aggravating that they clearly spared no magic nor sacrificial subjects (or perhaps only money and plutonium for the time machine) to get H.P. Lovecraft himself to sign the books but couldn't afford sending the books your way.

Mark, this was really disappointing for me. Part of the reason I bought the book was because I thought it would have your signature. I was under the impression that it had signatures from all the authors and artists (still alive).

Re: S.T. Joshi's new Cthulhu anthology will have a story from Tom

I am very sad to see that they forgot Mark's signature!!! The signature sheets were printed twice because Jerad forgot to include my own name. This was clearly an unfortunate oversight and was not intentional, as the sheets were sent all over outside ye U.S.A. Unless, of course, Mark indicated to Jerad that he had no wish to sign 500 signature sheets; and then, of course, Jerad wou'd have complied to such a request.

The book looks absolutely beautiful. Jerad has made many, many excellent volumes (personal, maybe idiosyncratic favorite is Dramas From the Depths). This book, however, you can tell that it is unequivocally Jerad and S.T.'s labor of love towards Lovecraft and all that is Mythos. This is THE definitive aesthetic statement of the Mythos and will remain so for a long, long, long time.

Re: S.T. Joshi's new Cthulhu anthology will have a story from Tom

The posting of those pages &c has increas'd my fever for this fantastic book. To have a story therein is pure joy. I remember, when S. T. first told me that he was editing a book of his "favourite" Mythos stories, I thought he was joking--his former loathing of this kind of writing was well-known. He once, in a review, wrote something to ye effect that that were better things to do than read or write Mythos tales--such as staring into space. Perhaps his real evolution of attitude began when he began to edit the BLACK WINGS series, although he insisted that these would be "New Tales of Lovecraftian Horror," and that Mythos tales wou'd not be considered. Another factor in his new attitude concerning Mythos fiction came, I think, from being the main fiction editor for Hippocampus Press, and other presses, that sought collections of modern Mythos fiction, such as the spectacular COPPING SQUID by Michael Shea, published by Perilous Press when S. T. was editor of their New Millennium Mythos line (he also chose, for publication, the outstanding book by Brian Stableford, THE WOMB OF TIME, yet I think the two tales that make up that fabulous book are more Lovecraftian than traditional Mythos work). S. T.'s editing collections for Hippocampus taught him that ye Mythos is still popular and that such books sell very well. Of course, the really weird result was S. T.'s writing of his own Mythos novel, THE ASSAULTS OF CHAOS, a book that gave S. T,'s critics new ammunition for insulting him (the book was not well received, although I enjoy'd and admired it).

And now, especially with Titan Books, S. T. has found a new publisher that is anxious to publish "Cthulhu" anthologies, reprinting the BLACK WINGS series (and changing ye title to BLACK WINGS OF CTHULHU) and publishing this new two-volume compilation, THE MADNESS OF CTHULHU. This is just the beginning, I think, of such books forthcoming from S. T. as editor. He and I have just completed work on my next book for Hippocampus Press, which is Lovecraftian to ye core.

Jerad's newsletter of to-day states that he is considering doing a reprint edition of A MOUNTAIN WALKED, 700 copies without slipcase and without signature sheets. Retail price would be perhaps -- $50!! I said a very loud YES!!!!!! To encourage Jerad in bringing forth this reprint edition, write to him at jerad@centipedepress.com.

I second Willum's petition.

I am not signing 700 copies of the reprint however.

Ya, I replied immediately to it as soon as I saw it. There's no way I'm taking my slipcased copy more than 5 meters from my study. Got one of those handcuff briefcases just in case.

I just hope my contributor's copy turns up. Certainly the last one did. When I wrote my controversial intro to the Centipede Edgar A. Poe volume (or one of them -- I think there were two Poe volumes) I was authentically delighted, enraptured even, by the design of the book itself when I got my copy.

Saints alive: it has VELVET partial boards... !!! And Harry Clarke illustrations ...
