The two Blackwoods I reread from time to time are the older Spring House editions from the 60s:
Tales Of The Uncanny and Supernatural
Tales Of The Mysterious and Macabre
Both show up USED all the time, and generally affordable.
In fact, most Blackwood collections are good buys.

No idea how he "reads" to modern sensibilities.

I like very much some of his lesser known works. "The Wolves of God" and "An Egyptian Hornet" are two tales that never made it into the pages of the several American collections I own. The former tale, while not Blackwood at his best, is good enough to remind you this was the gentleman who wrote "The Willows" and "The Wendigo."

I just read Blackwood's "The Goblin Collection," which I found hilarious. I find pretty much anything having to do with diminutive creatures funny, especially when they terrorize elderly people for no apparent reason. The last segment of King's The Cat's Eye has me rolling on he ground each time I watch it. Even some parts of Machen's "little people" mythos makes me chuckle.

I just started reading The Education of Uncle Paul. I like the beginning very much. Algernon Blackwood is one of few writers whose stories pleasantly and permanently stay in my emotional memory. He has that genuine dedication, and generosity, to his fellow beings. And depth of intelligence enough to leave a mark.

They send shivers down my spine. And when I walk in the dark through unpopulated rural areas, the memory of those stories make me break out in cold sweat, and panicky fear of the "little people" jumping out from the bush. Honestly, Arthur Machen has managed to convince me, at least on a subconscious level. The "little people" are extremely creepy, and somehow very real.

I agree, and that novel is one of my favourites. Blackwood can be sentimental in things like this, but his sincerity and the intensity of his feeling somehow makes me go along with it. Chapter 10 contains some of his best writing.
