Authors and Their Plush Toys

A just for fun thread.

I liked this comment by Quentin:

Literally a shadow, as in a sort of amorphous puddle of darkness? A soft mannequin?

And then, it would be harder again in Aickman's case.

In a sense, though, perhaps this is precisely why the dangers of adapting Aickman's work to film might be less pronounced, since there are fewer easy-to-caricature images to seize on.

The black swine would be a good Ligotti plush toy. Hard to think of a better one. Maybe The Ticket Man.

I'm at a complete loss for Aickman.

You could make Lovecraft plush toys from now till doomsday. His mythos and various creatures have more than a little something to do with his appeal. Even atheists need their gods, apparently.

Edward Gorey has a good one.

Edward Gorey's The Black Doll

"A life-long friend of Edward Gorey's made The Black Doll for him in 1942. Gorey visited her while she was making it, and upon seeing it insisted on keeping it in it's unfinished state, lacking a face, arms and clothing. In spite of her objection, Gorey prevailed. It may be the first recorded instance of Gorey's enduring dedication to engaging the imagination.
The incomplete Black Doll has remained a recurring enigma for almost 70 years appearing in many of Gorey's books and drawings as well as being the subject of his silent screenplay. This is the first time The Black Doll has been produced for Edward Gorey's devoted following.
In its newest incarnation, The Black Doll returns as an objet d'art. Necessaries Toy Foundation in conjunction with the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust will release The Black Doll in a limited edition of 2000. Measuring 13 - it is larger than the original, which measured roughly 7. The minimally yet artfully designed box boasts on the back, an account of the original doll's history. The whole package is a sublime tribute to a most beloved artist. As always, Necessaries produces toys in such a way that elevates them from simple limited edition figures to endearing artifacts." -Annie Owens/Hi-fructose

Re: Authors and Their Plush Toys

Since pre-orders for Eurobear ("The ORIGINAL Dan Ghetu Plush Toy") were higher than expected, I will be releasing a second edition with voice support. Now Eurobear will recite the classic Dan Ghetu quotes you know and love when the string behind its head is pulled.

In order to increase sales of future models I am attempting to write them into a cartoon show. Markitty the Mark Samuels Mascot will be joined by Mark Valencat in the pilot episode of Mark Samuels: Friendship is Magic.

Ligottian plushies have been made for some time, they've just been snuck in under different brand names and characters so that no one catches on to the spreading malignancy:

Re: Authors and Their Plush Toys

possible Laird Barron merch:
DIY Dolmen kit - be the bane of your neighborhood and open doors to places nobody wants to go.
imago sequence poster - hang in your kitchen, near the provender.
God of the hunt plush, with little hellhound plushes that attach with magnets or velcro
Old Leech plush.

Joe Pulver swag:
Orphan Palace branded zippo.
wearable Pallid Mask.

Ligotti plush toy ideas:
Clown Puppet - hand puppet. marionette puppet. either way. Looks somehow wrong, like it may be the product of an art-therapy class at a medical establishment that has long since shut down/vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Frank Domino - a big soft white rectangular domino with black pips for the face and "WORK NOT DONE" spelled out on the back.

modular plush trolley - held together by velcro. the little attached price/info tag includes scrawled instructions to DUSTROY TROLLY

and saving the best for last...
Mandibole - Laird Barron hit the nail on the head for Ligottian product design in More Dark. ugly lumpy rubbery tumor with a face thing. robe and mask for the puppeteer sold separately. or something worse ;)

I presume their cutie mark will resemble graffiti'd glyphs of undoubtedly arcane or possibly preternatural origin?

Love these two. Would buy.

Now, let's see...

Clive Barker
merch: Popolac and Podujevo plushies. Podujevo falls apart easily, though...

T.E.D. Klein: A 'One Size Eats All' sleeping bag replica. Complete with what seems to be a deflated basketball.

Matt Cardin: 'God of Foulness' figure set. 12 dolls in various states of putrefaction that meld into a shape too horrible to be pictured on the box or described in the instructions manual, so you're left to figure it out on your own. Each figure sold separately. Gotta catch them all.
