Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Final cover art by the incomparable Dave Felton for the inaugural issue of Vastarien: A Literary Journal. The mock-cover design itself is not final.

All galley proofs have been approved. We're only waiting on interior art and the creation and (hopefully) successful completion of an associated Kickstarter campaign to cover all costs.

I think I can speak for my Co-Editor-In-Chief, Matt Cardin, when I state that this is going to be something unusually special, filled with in-depth non-fiction essays and new weird fiction, terrific poetry, and fascinating hybrid pieces by some of the best authors out there. I know Vastarien has been long in coming, but it should be well worth the wait. We'll keep you posted.

This is the English version of the Foreword Ligotti wrote for the Polish edition of Teatro Grottesco (2014).

Some of you might be interested to know -- or might already be aware -- that the publication of this foreword in Vastarien #1 will mark its first appearance in English.

This will also mark the first English appearance of the interview with Ligotti by Wojciech Gunia, which was originally published in a Polish magazine in conjunction with the Polish Teatro (of which Gunia was one of the translators).

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

The final version of Vastarien's table of contents looks amazing. The editors are preparing a real treat for the Ligotti readers.

Is it too early to be asking when the journal shall be open for submissions to the next edition? (It probably is. ;) )

I believe we'll be opening up for new submissions very soon. TLO members will be the first to know.

Speaking of which, we're raising funds for journal-related costs--especially author and artist payment--in the lead up to issue 1's release. Before we start a Kickstarter campaign, I'm going to be selling a few books and other items of which I have duplicates. 100% of proceeds will go to the production costs of Vastarien issues.

The first of these items is a beautiful, unread trade paper copy of The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein, and Other Gothic Tales.

This copy is in perfect condition and is signed by both Thomas Ligotti and the late, great Michael Shea.

Details:

Eugene, OR.: Silver Salamander Press, 1994, 1st Edition, First Printing, Eugene, Oregon, 1994. Soft Cover. Condition: Fine (see description). Brian Short cover Design (illustrator). First Edition. ----------trade paperback, a Mint copy, signed by Ligotti and Shea, limited to 1000 copies, issued simultaneously with the very rare hardcover edition, contents include: "Introduction: Good-Tom-Go-Lightly" by Michael Shea, "One Thousand Painful Variations Performed Upon Divers Creatures Undergoing the Treatment of Dr. Moreau, Humanist", "The Excruciating Final Days of Dr. Henry Jekyll, Englishman", "The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein, Citizen of Geneva", "The Heart of Count Dracula, Descendant of Attila, Scourge of God", "The Insufferable Salvation of Lawrence Talbot the Wolfman", "The Intolerable Lesson of the Phantom of the Opera", "The Unbearable Rebirth of the Phantom of the Wax Museum", "The Perilous Legacy of Emily St. Aubert, Inheritress of Udolpho", "The Eternal Devotion of the Governess to the Residents of Bly", "The Unnatural Persecution, by a Vampire, of Mr. Jacob J.", "The Superb Companion of André de V., Anti - Pygmalion", "The Ever-Vigilant Guardians of Secluded Estates", "The Scream, from 1800 to the Present", "The Transparent Alias of William Wilson, Sportsman and Scoundrel", "The Worthy Inmate of the Will of the Lady Ligeia", "The Interminable Residence of the Friends of the House of Usher", "The Fabulous Alienation of the Outsider, Being of No Fixed Abode", "The Blasphemous Enlightenment of Prof. Francis Wayland Thurston of Boston, Providence, and the Human Race", "The Premature Death of H. P. Lovecraft, Oldest Man in New England", a rarity outdone only by the Silver Scarab edition of Songs of a Dead Dreamer.

Cost: $160 plus shipping.

I'm offering this book and other related items one at a time to TLO members only at a reduced price. If you're interested in purchasing (payment by PayPal), please PM me. I'm willing to ship anywhere in the world for appropriate shipping costs applied. Please only contact me if you're willing and able to purchase the book immediately.

If no TLO members are interested in a this or other items, I'll be offering it for purchase elsewhere at a higher cost.

Again, the money raised by these special Ligotti-related items will be applied specifically to present and ongoing Vastarien productions and their associated costs.

Keep an eye out for additional items (some of them quite rare).

Many thanks!

Re: Vastarien: A Literary Journal Is Open for Submissions

Many thanks. Hopefully I'll have something ready to go for submission once you re-open (though there's no guarantee I'll have anything which is good enough, of course. ;) )
