The X- Files

So, did anyone watch this? What did you guys and gals think?

I thought it was great and was pleasantly surprised at how familiar it all felt. It made me remember watching the show when I was in high school and could not wait to discuss the episodes with my friends the next day; I have the same feeling right now and will log on to Facebook to see if they are still open to talk about it as we did so many years ago.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

I didn't like the first episode much, but then I think Chris Carter's conspiracy mytharc went to hell after S4, and I'm more of a monster of the week person. I thought the second episode was better, and I'm hugely excited for the next episode as Darin Morgan is a brilliant writer. Humbug, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose and Jose Chung's From Outer Space were top notch.

Re: The X- Files

I'm a huge fan and have all ye seasons in yem dvd box sets. This first episode did not captivate my imagination, and there was little of the wonderful "feel" that the show can weave over me so that I am utterly transported. I have no interest in UFOs, and much prefer the really bizarre episodes that feature queer monsters and odd characters. Still, it was wonderful to watch those two beloved characters click together once more, and it was nice to see the original theme music and beginning images as in ye olde days. I know that when things get really weird I will love it as once I did. Too, I admire the filming of the series, the genius way they do lighting, play with shadow and muted colors, &c &c. With so little on telly that I want to watch, it's nice to have a series that I can look forward to, and watch whenever I like on Xfinity.

"We work in the dark -- we do what we can -- we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art."

Re: The X- Files

With other shows, such as Fringe, I tend to zone out during episodes which don't advance the main story arc and view them as 'filler', but with The X-Files I tend to be the opposite in that none of my favourite episodes have anything to do with the ongoing alien storyline. I don't think there has been a great alien mytharc episode of the show since S2's One Breath, although it didn't lose me until S5's convoluted episodes.

Chris Carter's leaden dialogue (those voice-overs!) and repetitive conspiracy tropes don't grab me any more. What excited me about this revival was that James Wong, Glen Morgan and Darin Morgan were back, as none of them had written for the show since the early golden era, and I rate them as the show's finest writers, along with Vince Gilligan. James Wong and Glen Morgan showran Millennium during S2, which was a fantastic run.

Re: The X- Files

I saw a few fantastic things in that first episode, definitely enough to commend it. The switch-up of the conspiracy is interesting.

Also, for wingsofwax, I came across a post on facebook that offered free viewing of the first two eps... Watch The X-Files Online: Episode 1, Season 10 on FOX
Looks like they require a download of their Fox Now app. Don't know about availability outside of US.

Re: The X- Files

Thanks, Lord Jim.

I DVR'd it, and the football post-game cut off the last half hour of the first episode.

"I myself have never seen the Red Tower - no one ever has, and possibly no one ever will. And yet wherever I go people are talking about it. In one way or another they are talking about the nightmarish novelty items or about the mysterious and revolting hyper-organisms, as well as babbling endlessly about the subterranean system of tunnels and the secluded graveyard whose headstones display no names and no dates designating either birth or death"

VPN to spoof.
Yes, this worked for me using the Chrome extension Hola. And thanks again, Lord Jim! Now if only the rest of the season will go up online somewhere too.
