The Hostetler Blind Family
This may be of interest of to some of y'all. I'm currently researching a family of blind musicians who once (in the late 1800s) lived around where I currently live--in southwestern Pennsylvania. They were called the Hostetler Blind Family, and all four of 'em were born without eyes. They toured around the country and possibly even toured Europe.
There's VERY little info available about them, alas, but I've consolidated all of it at a Wetpaint wiki page dedicated them. Check it out here for a bit of info and some photos. They remind me greatly of the musicians from "Music of the Moon." Ohyeah, and needless to say, I'll be writing something about them eventually...once I rake together enough information concerning them to build a convincing narrative. Here's a photo of them (c. 1870s) taken from either a carte de visite or a ticket/playbill for one of their appearances: |
