Far Below

A filmed version of Johnson's classic "Far Below" on Monsters. Didn't know such a thing existed. It's tacky, pure cheese at best, but popcorn and a beer will make it enjoyable. I've become more tolerant with the years and can take a joke.

Thriller's "Pigeons from Hell" is appreciably better:

And this is a good version of Derleth's best James pastiche:

Arkham House fans should check out Thriller on Youtube. They filmed a lot of AH material. And all well done for the times. Lots of Derleth and Bloch.

Some of the beat episodes--for example, Derleth's "Doktor Markesan"--are no longer available on Youtube, so if you want to check Thriller out, now is the time to do so. All 85 episodes are available in a reasonably priced collection.

Re: Far Below

"Far Below" and Kuttner's "Graveyard Rats" are the only two tales I know that could pass for Lovecraft works. The Johnson tale, in particular, is a classic.
btw, Thriller did Kuttner's "Masquerade."

Monsters was campy as hell, but you'd be surprised at some of the stories they did film, e.g., Long's "The Space Eaters."

The Lisa Tuttle story below was surprisingly good ...for Monsters.

Re: Far Below

Yes, Michael, the intro is great! Give me a beer, some pickled eggs and an episode of Monsters and I'm content.
