The Art of Martin Erik Andersen

Danish sculptor Martin Erik Andersen is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting artists around.

His works are fragile, and in the neither this nor that-region between sculptural art and installations art.

The reason he may be interesting for this forum, is not only because of his art, but also because he is inspired by the likes of Current 93, Lovecraft, William Hope Hodgson, Arthur Machen (and has read Ligotti), and incorporates these influences in his art.

He is obsessed by rooms and space, and his artworks seem to function as portals, transitional places towards different spaces and worlds.

He uses knitting, stainless steel, old Donald Duck-comics covered in wax, dissolved bronze heads, computer screens, religious artefacts, neon tubes and much, much more. The disparate materials seems to create way for new connections between his rooms and the surrounding world, as well as they create a general notion of displacement. They can also relate to the "world as a junk-heap" which is also found in Ligotti. They discuss the character of the real, and tries to re-negotiate the patterns and rules for the real, which humanity has set up.

Here are some of his works that may be interesting for members of TLO; there's much more at www.martinerikandersen.dk
