Oh noooooo, there are women APLENTY who do just this. "The great not listening" is far from a male-only habit. Yesterday, at work, I (a man) was subjected to this by not one but THREE different women. This phenomena is part of the Great Narcissism that's been going on for decades, on both sides of the gender fence.

Oh, and in reference to the original post, if this is the worst thing she's got to worry about, then it's a slow news day indeed.

EXACTLY!

Some people act like they have to pee waiting for the other person in the conversation to shut up before they can continue with their Kardashian-like monologue for the love of heaven when will they ever stop God save us...

It crushes individuality and creativity. The worlds chapter is just the natural progression.

Regarding the piece: I'd think we should be interested in the opinion of the women on TLO.

This also goes hand in hand with the male monologue.
I hate being buttonholed by a monologuist, male or female, and, even worse, being in circumstances (e.g., at my job) where I am quite literally a captive audience for hours. The latter situation annihilates my cerebrum and has alarming effects on my limbic system.

I marked the following passage in Michael Cisco's Member:

Quote
Even worse when others reduced to idiocy like myself offer me their confidences.

"You know, that room reminds me of another boring story about stuff you don't care about; y'see, there was these..." For god's sakes make him stop I'm gonna send my attention span to a rape treatment center. They don't know I'm not a real person.

Re: 'Too' is a sexist adverb

Female here.
The author seems to be the type of person I hate most-the preacher. I imagine her daily conversation with stranger:
"Stop using 'too' in conversations with female."
"What?"
"One day, I was looking at myself in the mirror, and I want change. I want to change my hair."
"Excuse me..."
"Then I ask my friend, what kind of hairstyle should I change to. And she said 'You can't change your hair too short, or too long.' and that's when I realize..."
" "
"I should be just who I am. With just the right amount of bitchiness."

This woman doesn't realize she will just be cold meat in the morgue no matter how much time she takes painting her nails.

"Tell me how you want to die, and I'll tell you who you are. In other words, how do you fill out an empty life? With women, books, or worldly ambitions? No matter what you do, the starting point is boredom, and the end self-destruction. The emblem of our fate: the sky teeming with worms. Baudelaire taught me that life is the ecstasy of worms in the sun, and happiness the dance of worms."

Re: 'Too' is a sexist adverb

When I saw this thread, I thought its was about the too like in "I´m too". If it´s about the too like "you´re too whatever", than yeah, not a great adverb to say often to women or people in general, and not at all when it comes to appearance. But here it´s obviously used in a methaphorical way, with the main idea being that the women are often thought as not "good enough". I don´t see any "political correctness gone mad" here. The article is not about literal abolishment of the word too, it´s about stopping judging women harsher than men.
