I am on the fence with this book, deciding whether to buy or not.
How helpful / informative were the annotations?
How was the paper?
I just don't know this publisher and have read little about them.
Hate to be fussy ... but ... I am.
The binding is very good with embossed lettering, the paper is a bit thin and the text itself was a bit muted on the paper, although still very readable. The illustrations are quite nice, but they don't do that much to enhance the reading experience. The foreword was very informative and shed some background info on the tales as well as an analytical viewpoint. The notes are ok, mostly explanatory notes and translations of the Latin pieces in the text.
I am happy with this edition, especially for the price, and since I had neither of these tales in a nice hardback edition, but there is no doubt better editions out there.

Re: Recent Reading

This place had a weird and unfortunate swing to the far right a while back. Let's not revert. We've come so far. Let's all come together and plot the globalist postmodern neo-Marxist feminist conspiracy.

I am going through the forgotten novels of Shirley Jackson. I'm hoping to find lost treasure. The touch of genius was in everything of hers I have read so far.

Re: Recent Reading

Currently nearing completion of Mark Samuels' novella 'The Face of Twilight', whilst having also just begun Brian Howell's Vermeer based novel 'The Dance of Geometry'. (I have it in the back of my mind that Howell has had stories published by Ex Occidente, though I'm not sure on the matter.)

Re: Recent Reading

Started reading Murphy's "Daughters Of Apostasy."
So far, the first two stories, "The Scourge And The Sanctuary" and "Permutations Of The Citadel" were exquisite; the unfolding of an opium dream, which, unfortunately, dissipated in the last pages.
Fingers crossed that the subsequent stories carry better payoffs.

He published The Curious Case of Jan Torrentius with Ex Occidente and Zagava (ZEX). Its publication history is a bit... disjointed. That book comprised three novella-length narratives and was supposed to be the first of two. However, plans for a second book were scrapped until a couple of years later when Jonas (of Zagava) decided to publish the whole "series" as a box set of six books. Moreover, this later publication established a reading order very different from the one that was initially started under the ZEX publication.

I also see that Brian Howell was one of the nemonymous contributors to Nemonymous 3.

I read 'Daughters of Apostasy' earlier this year, and I actually found 'Permutations of the Citadel' to be my favourite story in a very strong collection.

Many thanks for the clarification.

Re: Recent Reading

Just finished ‘the doll’s alphabet’ by Camilla Grudova,

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...om_search=true

Its a collection of surreal short stories, pretty dark edged, well written and easily read. I think it will appeal to some people here. This publisher seems interesting, i have a couple more books of theirs in my reading list..

Re: Recent Reading

While I may be £36 lighter, thanks to eBay I shall soon be enjoying Colin Insole's collection 'Elegies and Requiems'.
