TLO Slow?

Some members have recently reported that TLO has been much slower over the past couple of weeks. While I have not experienced this myself, I am interested to hear everyone's personal experience. I will also be temporary disabling some recently implemented features and/or changing various settings to ferret out possible culprits prior to reporting this to my Host Service Provider.

Test One Begins Today at 6:00 AM EST

Re: TLO Slow?

Thanks Dr. B.
The site still seems slow though not as slow as it was yesterday. I am able to scroll, (still very slowly but I am able to). This is an improvement.

Re: TLO Slow?

As i told Candy yesterday, scrolling was difficult for me when i used Mozilla. It was incredibly slow. I thought to change into Internet Explorer and now i move faster, although i prefered Mozilla..

Thanks B.

Re: TLO Slow?

No problems here, Dr B (although TLO sometimes did feel 'heavy' in the past). I use the Opera browser, btw. I wonder how fast the connections of members with difficulties are. That might play a part, as not everybody will have broadband.

The site that almost wrecks my Internet connection is Facebook...

Re: TLO Slow?

Brian,
I definitely noticed a slowdown in recent days, but I also use Mozilla Firefox due to the fact that it is a far more secure browser than IE, which is fraught with security issues and is constantly being patched due to the repeated vulnerabilities that are exposed by those that want to expoit them. The issue with scrolling (in Firefox) that others mentioned is also evident, along with perhaps slightly slower page navigation due to a slowdown in the loading of images/data. Even using IE, which I do at work, the pages seem to load more slowly, if that helps at all.

Re: TLO Slow?

FireFox 3.x does not handle scrolling of graphical backgrounds well. I myself noticed this backslide when I first made the jump, but it sounds like more is going on here. I will move to disabling another module tomorrow and see if things change. I am on high-end broadband, therefore most everything is instantaneous other than the curious scrolling delay, which is not present in IE. Until this is sorted out, those that are experiencing painful response times may want to try out non-graphic intensive styles such as Autumnal, Crypt of Ligotti, Grimscribe, Resurrection - White or vLigotti.

Re: TLO Slow?

I have changed to vligotti style and now can scroll perfectly. While it is not my favorite style I am happy to keep that as my style so I can enjoy TLO.

Re: TLO Slow?

I believe I have resolved that the scrolling issue is directly related to how Firefox 3.x handles fixed background images. I have temporarily disabled fixed backgrounds within the Death Poems style and ask that members report if this has eliminated the slow scrolling issue, which could also have given the perception that the site itself was running slow. This will result in less than perfect graphical layout from my perspective, but some of you may not notice the difference. Other styles have not yet been revised. If fixed background images appear to be a creating substantial annoyance for members, I will likely remove the effect until such time that Firefox has resolved the issue. Internet Explorer appears to handle the environment without problems. Curious.

Re: TLO Slow?

Dr. Bantham,
I am currently in the Death Poems style. It does run pretty good although it is still not back to full strength. vligotti style seems to run quicker. I hope this doesn't upset you!!! I know how hard you are working on the problem but I want to be honest in case it is affecting other people. Thank you for all you are doing!!!!

Thanks, candy. I sincerely appreciate the feedback. It may take trial and error, but I hope to resolve the speed issue in good time. ;)
