Topic Nominated Hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm to be released!

Sophisticated-outlaw-surrealist press Savoy Books, who in their earlier days often found themselves in trouble with British law during the Thatcher administration, have finally gotten around to re-releasing their Reverbstorm comic line in compiled hardback form, due in large part to the efforts of the series' fantastic artist John Coulthart. Reverbstorm is a continuation of Hard Core Horror, which in turn was a comic-form accompanying piece to the Lord Horror novels beginning with Baptised in the Blood of Millions, the novels and graphic novels alike being written by Savoy regular David Britton. Together they form a scathingly, indeed absurdly (albeit in an interesting way) intense alternative-history rendering of real life 1930s British fascists and their collaboration with Nazi Germany. Deeply influenced by such works as Les Chants de Maldoror and Naked Lunch and rivaling either of the mentioned in unrelenting surreal excess, Reverbstorm is an all but indefensibly pitch-black satirical gaze at blind idealogical paranoia and unreasoning xenophobia, which could probably, and sadly, remind any number of potential readers of any number of people they know in person, especially if one lives in the bible-belt of America. No, it would be foolish to say that this work has aged at all since the early nineties. It goes without saying, especially when one judges the samples below, that this work is not for everyone. However, if one is truly jaded to that which is called humanity's seemingly limitless capacity for that which is called inhumanity, or were one is fond of works such as The Wild Boys by William S. Burroughs, The Torture Garden by Octave Mirbeau, or the performace-art of the Vienna Actionists, then this 300+ page compendium of madness may be of interest to you.

The page on Coulthart's blog regarding the news of its eventual re-release.

The fantastic, and fantastically obscure press, despite the trouble they've been under the past, that released it in the first place.

Can't wait.

Re: Hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm to be released!

I looked on Savoy's website to find information on ordering info but couldn't find any place to order or pre-order. Is it being rereleased from a different publisher? Thanks for this info; this series completely went past my radar.

Re: Hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm to be released!

On John Coulthart's blog he states near the beginning of the respective entry that Savoy will indeed be publishing the book later this year. There has already been a news bulletin at Savoy's website for the month of April, and I visit John's website regularly enough to get the impression that he may have only just finished compiling and rescanning all of his original material, as well as finalizing new accompanying graphics, like only within the past few weeks maybe. So this really seems to be freshly breaking news as far as Reverbstorm is concerned. If you explore his site at all, you'll really get a strong notion of how talented John is, and he considers Reverbstorm to be his greatest work thus far, perhaps in all. So it really is something I have to see in its entirety.

Keep checking their site. I'll be doing the same. John has been friends with David Britton and the others at Savoy Books for so long that I would be somewhat shocked if it ended up going to another publisher.

This looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for this exposure to an absolutely amazing artist. I've seen some of his work here & there without realizing who he was. I'd definitely pick up a hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm, should it come to pass.

Re: Hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm to be released!

Looking on his website and the Savoy website too. Can't find a place to put in pre-orders. Does anyone know if pre-orders will be taken or where orders will be sent from (Coulthart's website or Savoy's website)?

Re: Hardcover compilation of Reverbstorm to be released!

According to Coulthart's post from today (Nov. 10), he seems to
think pre-orders may happen in January with the book being
released in February. At least that's what he is hoping for........

Otherwise, you could always email him via his website or try
emailing Savoy.

Cheers all.

Yes, it's being published by Savoy so I assume they'll
be selling copies.

But I would still email Coulthart directly to confirm.
