Ha ha, man, I'm glad I got it when I did!

I seem to recall Mark telling me that Chomu Press would eventually be releasing a trade paperback edition of it at some point in the future, though.

There's a big William Burroughs (the original "language as a virus" guy) influence and this "language horror" idea comes up strong in the latter parts of it. If you like that as much as I do then I'd recommend checking it out. Quick read.
Minor threadjack but I've recently picked up the last five issues of Zero (the only ones I could find at the store). The genre is pretty much Grant Morrison (even more apparent in Kot's other series The Surface, which I bought at the same time), but in a good way. Issue #16 contains artwork by Stathis Tsemberlidis (whose illustration of Ligotti's "Nethescurial" is currently linked to on the main page of this site).

I won't lie, I think people who've done "heroic" psilocybin doses before will connect with this comic a lot more than those who haven't - their reaction will more likely be "Oh yeah, the fungal internet multiverse of ghosts...yeah, I remember that" as opposed to "WTF IS HAPPENING!?" But it's a strong comic either way, and the inclusion of Burroughs and some of his themes worked well with the general exploration of the roots of violence.

Ales Kot is worth checking out as he seems both prolific and consistent; he's young and clearly pretty motivated so it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with next.

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories

Forthcoming in one of the two new Joshi anthologies is a story by Mark Samuels, "Dictates of the Invisible," a long novella really, which I can only compare to a combination of Heart of Darkness and At the Mountains of Madness.
I couldn't resist giving a heads up to Samuels fans: and, yes, I've had the privilege of reading it and it's quite wonderful. It's also unlike anything Mark has written previously or, at least, anything that I've read by him. I think it's a fantastic tale and S. T. apparently agreed. So perhaps later this year...

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories

On the 16th of March 2011, a competition was announced.
The task was to decipher the unfamiliar characters produced by the typewriter on the cover of The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Weird Tales. The deadline for the competition was the 30th of March. It was not met.
To my knowledge, two versions of the cover have been produced, each with different text. The first version appears in the link above. The second version appears on the Amazon page:

I have deciphered both. Have I revealed some message from beyond, written in Thyxxolqus, the language in which the dead converse? Here is what was written on the cover used for the competition:

Quote
LOREM IPSUM DOLOR SIT AMET …
…and so on.

The Amazon version of the cover reads as follows:

Quote
THE TOWN OF STRASGOL IS SITUATED IN A CORNER OF EASTERN EUROPE…
It is a slightly garbled version of the introductory passage of “Losenef Express”, the first story in the book.
