JOE HILL'S 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS

I am currently reading Joe Hill's very highly regarded collection 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS and will be posting a review on my website, hopefully by the end of this week.

I've only read four of the fourteen tales in the paperback edition thus far, one very much to my taste and the other three very much less so.

This short review makes me happy to no end, Mark. I was beginning to feel like the only one.

Re: JOE HILL'S 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS

I'm a big fan of Joe Hill's.

My story NOWHERE TO GO was published by PS PUBLISHING in a book titled POSTSCRIPTS #14 in England in 2008. Let me know if you've read it. I self-published eight short stories on audio-cassette in 1999 titled, fittingly, BARRY WOOD'S SHORT STORIES. And a few other short stories in little obscure publications -- which I forget their titles.

Re: JOE HILL'S 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS

Great review Mark. After reading all these glowing reviews of Joe Hill's work and all the buzz this book as created (not to mention a fistful of awards and nominations) I had to order a copy. From the reviews I've read it doesn't seem to be my usual preferred style of horror (that being an abstract, transcendental brand of horror); however, good writing is good writing and I am willing to give it a shot. Especially after reading the enthusiastic endorsements of friends on TLO whose opinions I value highly. The TLO crew also introduced me to Reggie Oliver and Cormac McCarthy's work for which I am grateful.
It appears that copies of 20th Century Ghosts are getting scarce. The hardcover is limited to only 500 copies. As of the time of this writing Shocklines and Clarkesworld are temporarily out of stock (hopefully they will get more in soon, so check back). For those looking for a copy, Realms of Fantasy Books (online bookstore) still has some copies.
Congrats to PS Publishing for taking a big chance with a new author and striking gold.

I was with you until you said PS was taking a chance with Hill's book. I'd have been surprised if it WASN'T up for a fistfull of awards, based on who it came from.

That said, I managed to snag from PS one of the errata copies of the book -- all the contents of the super-special edition between the covers of the regular hardback edition.

Saved me a few coins that way ... though I imagine it will never be worth the same :-(
