Inquiry: Essays or scholarship on Algernon Blackwood?

Hello, everyone. I'm a scholar doing work mostly on philosophy and politics. However, this fall I'm going to be doing some work on Algernon Blackwood. The critical literature on him seems quite small.

I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations for essays or scholarship on him, or any of his work.

Thanks in advance!

Here's something for free, and

from Joshi that's a bit more.

Centipede always has good resources for classic Weirdists, and have a

that might include some essay work.

Probably not much help, but these three (re)sources were the first things I thought of in relation to Blackwood.

Thanks! This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, as well as anything that's older or more obscure.

Re: Inquiry: Essays or scholarship on Algernon Blackwood?

You should probably check out The Weird Tale by S.T. Joshi, Supernatural Horror in Literature by H.P. Lovecraft and The Tale of Terror by Edith Birkhead.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

The Supernatural in Fiction by Peter Penzoldt is as good as you can get.

Re: Inquiry: Essays or scholarship on Algernon Blackwood?

I second the recommendation for The Weird Tale by S.T. Joshi. The essay in there is the best I've ever read on Blackwood.
Mike Ashley's biography of Blackwood is, of course, essential if you need background on his life.
Blackwood was very prolific so if you're going to tackle all his fiction you've got a lot to get through!

Really blows me away how quickly that Centipede Blackwood volume sold out and then got massively inflated in the secondary market. I suppose it's because there aren't a lot of swank contemporary editions of his work?
