Novels or Short Stories Which Should Be Made Into Movies

I've been somewhat disappointed in the horror movies which came out in the past few years, because some of them are either remakes, or use old tropes (e.g. the haunted house).

This thread is to discuss novels or short stories which can made into an excellent film. I have some in mind, but to get the ball rolling, I'll suggest one:

"The 60 Minute Zoom" by J.G. Ballard.

This story, strictly speaking, is "mimetic". An affluent couple is vacationing. The narrator is observing his surroundings through a Nikon Zoomatic. After a period of observing "beautiful people", his camera catches his partner, Helen, having sex with another man.

I won't reveal more of the story, but I'll just say it has a horrific and twist ending.

The movie would be similar to Hitchcock's suspense movies. Other similar movies would be Peeping Tom and Eyes Wide Shut. Suggested director: Martin Scorsese

Re: Novels or Short Stories Which Should Be Made Into Movies

"Wishing well" from a season in carcosa. struggling actor, half remembered freaky local-access tv programming that seemed more like an occult ritual or cult indoctrination.

"God of the razor" from Tales of Jack the Ripper.

"Chapterhouse; Dune." bring back David Lynch, get Kyle Maclachlan in as one of the distant great-granddescendants of paul atreides.

"more dark." I'd be happy with any laird barron on the big screen, but this is my favorite.

"the orphan palace." this could be the modern One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, i think.
