Re: Bloodborne and H.P. Lovecraft
I feel that Silent Hill 3 ended the series beautifully. No need for more. Silent Hills looked great, and I'm pissed it was cancelled, but as with The Room it could have been a standalone horror game rather than an instalment in the series. The core story arc is over, and revisiting the same town over and over rids it of mystery.

Re: Bloodborne and H.P. Lovecraft
I think it was a mistake to keep making Silent Hill games (or anything else) after the third one. Better to make similar games if you must.
I thought Death Stranding would replace Silent Hills but Del Toro isn't involved. Edit: started writing this before James posted

Re: Bloodborne and H.P. Lovecraft
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Amnesia: The Dark Descent, one of the few excellent "Lovecraftian" games out there. Frictional Games have a keen eye for good horror.

If you own a PS4 and you have the funds, download Soma - you won't regret it. Imagine a horror game firmly grounded in the philosophy of mind.

Re: Bloodborne and H.P. Lovecraft
I want to replay Shattered Memories. I think it's the only post-SH3 game, along with SH4, I'd possibly consider to have a solid story. As with SH4 it is flawed and sort of its own thing, and would have benefited without the Silent Hill name, but I'd take those side stories over the hollow fan service of Origins and Homecoming. I didn't even bother with Downpour.
The final boss of SH4 always reminded me of Neon Genesis Evangelion in its imagery. |
