I quite enjoyed A Contaminated Text and especially, The Tower. All, so very lovely.

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories

Did anyone ever manage to decipher the coded message on the front cover of the Chomu edition of TMWCM?

I don't believe so. But that's an update I'd like to know about, if anyone has pulled it off successfully. I blew up the mystery text in this blog post from a little while ago:

Hmmm, well I'm not really so sure it's wise to actually understand how to read or speak Thyxxolqu... Decipherer's beware, and pay especial attention to your oral hygiene!

Somebody did, too late for the extended competition deadline, I should add. I won't say more. If the message becomes generally deciphered, perhaps we'll put a different message on any second edition.

May I just point out that I don't know myself what the hieroglyphic text put onto the front cover means. I have no insight into the concept.

I'm as intrigued as everybody else.

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories

Just picked this up the other day - heard LOTS of great stuff about it - and the code on the chomu edition was a nice bonus - hope someone manages to crack it..

I just placed my order for this one, but I won't be able to get my hands on it until a month or so, but it will be a nice Christmas present

Re: The Man Who Collected Machen and Other Stories

I'm still pondering whether I should get myself a copy of the Chomu paperback too. I like the red tint. Was there also an extra story there, not included in the Ex Occidente version? I'm too very lazy to check at the moment.

Yes, indeed there is, it's called The Tower. Happily it's very a very strong story to boot, though slightly different from much of Mark's previous works. I've been trying to persuade him to write more like it.
