Japanese Scientists vs the Giant Squid

Seems that some of the first really good footage of a giant squid has been taken by a team of Japanese scientists. As I viewed the footage, I was thrilled by the alien grace and swiftness of this elusive denizen of the depths...

Until, that is, the footage went ON to reveal that the intrepid men of science only managed to obtain this footage by using the tried and true baited hook on a line method to lure Architeuthis to his photo-op.

In the unwilling celebrity's titanic struggles for freedom, one of the long, whip tentacles was RIPPED off...

Normally, I'm all for advances in scientific knowledge. Hell, I'd love to see a Giant Squid up close (providing there was NO chance of it seizing and devouring me), but y'know, it just seems evil to try to snatch them out of the sea with a great big HOOK...

Where's Tennyson's Kraken when His rising could be useful?

Oh, Great Father Dagon, I send my prayer to thee in a call to bring Thy Divine Retribution :x! And get those Norwegian whalers, too. Give 'em the "Old One"-Two! Ia, Ia!
