Re: Ye H. P. Lovecraft Revisions

I very much enjoy The Curse of Yig, Medusa’s Coil and the Electric Executioner of his revision work, but The Mound stands up there as one of my favourite tales of his. The atmosphere and the descriptions of K’n-yan and the forgotten temples gets me every time. One of the tales I re-read the most actually. This reminds me that I need to start investing in these illustrated editions, they look gorgeous!

Re: Ye H. P. Lovecraft Revisions

oddly enough, I've never read even one of Lovecraft's revisions. Is there a book that collects all of them into one handy volume?

Collected Fiction Volume 4 (Revisions and Collaborations): A Variorum Edition : Hippocampus Press, specializes in classic horror and science fiction

This was what I bought for that purpose but as Robin said, the Eddy stories are absent.

You can find "The Loved Dead" in here:

By the way, what happened to the "Counter-Lovecraft"-thread?

Re: Ye H. P. Lovecraft Revisions

The Electric Executioner, a good story, always reminded me of something Ambrose Bierce could have written.

They should have made a black and white film version of The Last Test in the 30's with Boris Karloff as the ancient bass-voiced giant and Fay Wray as the heroine.

I am curious what other weird fiction fans think of these stories. Do you regard them as lesser work, or do you think they stand alongside Lovecraft's main body of tales? I am very happy to know that a fine forthcoming illustrated edition will be publish'd (hopefully at ye end of this year) by PS Publishing.
I remember liking "The Curse of Yig" very much, to the point of winning an original illustration of Yig on eBay by the artist, Allen Koszowski.

It has been so many years since I have read them that it is impossible for me to say anything other than overall they left a positive impression on me.

This raises a bit of nostalgia for me; there was a period in the late 90's when just about every horror zine out there was illustrated by Allen Koszowksi. Great artist, but I wonder if the his wrists can still bend after all that stippling.

Going back to the topic, given that everyone thinks so highly of the revisions, I think it might be time for me to give them another reading...especially since I haven't read Lovecraft in over a year.
