A Darker Madness Than The Evil Entwines

A flippant title to express my shock. A "good" copy of the paperback, "The Evil Entwines" (Revised Edition) by Thomas Ligotti and John B. Ford is now being offered on Amazon for $2,498.00! (Plus $3.99 shipping.)

A wonderful collection but this seems to be the epitome of shameless price gouging. It would be nice if Rainfall Books could explore reprinting this one.

Re: A Darker Madness Than The Evil Entwines

Couple of things:
1) Glad you enjoyed it.
2) These kind of ridiculous prices are generally not "real." A lot of online used booksellers employ pricing algorithms, usually dependent on relative pricing. As a consequence, if there are no other listings, the algorithm is essentially pricing against "infinity" (or whatever limits have been set in the algorithm). Alternately, if the other listings are also governed by pricing algorithms, you'll end up with the same effect. I knew a collector who would exploit these algorithms by finding cases such as this one, and listing a (non-existent) copy of the book for pennies, and ensuring that no one would buy it by saying that it was badly damaged and unreadable. The lowball price would then trigger an automatic adjustment to the "legit" listing's algorithm, and my friend would snag a collector's item at a firesale price.

Ahh, that explains a lot, Ucasuni! Thanks for explaining this rather arcane bit of bookseller lore, much appreciated!
