No, it is not safe to assume that!
Robert Aickman believed in the supernatural, as reported by his friends, Heather and Graham Smith. As Graham said, Aickman was annoyed that he had not witnessed supernatural phenomena more often. You need to watch the documentary.

"Robert Aickman believed in the supernatural, as reported by his friends, Heather and Graham Smith."

Useful evidence, but let's try a test. You've known me for over 30 years. Do I believe in the supernatural or not? ;--)

I don't believe that any "rational" person can completely dismiss the supernatural.

Re: Aickman's Philosophy

Now that's interesting, because, if asked by an admirer of your work, I would have said you were a complete rationalist who used the supernatural only as metaphor. But when I tried to think how I "knew" that, I couldn't really come up with much evidence. It was an impression, not a fact. Perhaps all interesting authors should be asked to fill out a 60 page questionnaire every 5 years or so. Might save a lot of time later!

Bollocks. You have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to either my political views or Aickman's.

Parapsychology and anomalous phenomena often find their way into his writing and he likes to keep up with research and new ideas. He is a member of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP) and engages with the idea that the paranormal is largely a cultural construct – but the fact that people experience things they can’t explain, and the way they do, fascinates him.
I think that it is safe to assume that it was same for Aickman, given how he used "supernatural" as an allegory
Yet more bollocks. It's 'safe to say' Aickman wasn't a believer in the supernatural because if we ignore what he ####ing says in his autobiographies (including his literal encounter with the supernatural he believed happened to him) and what those who knew him say then we have somebody completely different to Aickman setting an example for how he must have thought? What!? Where is the logic here? Sheer poseur ignorance. This will be the last I engage with you on the subject because quite frankly my dog knows more about Robert Aickman than you do.

Move over white dads. Aickman poseurs are the new nuisance, though there may be crossovers.

'I believe in what the Germans term Ehrfurcht: reverence for things one cannot understand.'

For some, inconvenient facts that imply life is less simple than one would like are to be deemed "Irrelevant" or simply ignored. Sorry. Life is more complex than that.
Conservatism and racism tend to go hand in hand. Are you really arguing that someone who is strongly against racism, nation or religion based hatred and segregation, sexism etc... is equally likely to identify as a liberal as he is likely to identify as a conservative?

Speaking of inconvenient facts that one is prone to simply ignore, I'd say that we discovered another one from your own list...
