Dark Regions Press

I pre-ordered Wilum Pugmire's 'Encounters with Enoch Coffin' from Dark Regions Press. I've emailed them for an update three times over the last 4 weeks but have been ignored. I still do not have the book.

Is anyone else having similar problems with Dark Regions Press?

Re: Dark Regions Press

If you're talking about one of the hardcover versions of Enoch Coffin, I pre-ordered that too, and production problems have resulted in delays. The trade paperback version is in print, and I've seen many people who have received their copies of that.

I don't recall where I've seen the new owner of Dark Regions post about production problems with the hardcover version, but in his explanation, I seem to recall he implied he had received lots of complaints from customers frustrated and impatient because the hardcovers weren't done yet, and asked for patience.

Another hardcover Dark Regions edition, Tom Piccirilli's The Walls of the Castle, has also suffered delays due to production problems.

Other recent updates (I don't recall if I saw these on Twitter or Facebook) from DRP mentioned going to World Horror Convention in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago, and now preparing to move to Portland next week.

None of these things really excuse ignoring emails from an impatient customer, but in combination they may explain why you haven't heard back. Perhaps it will ease your mind a little to know it's not only your order that is delayed, but the hardcover editions in general. Of course if you ordered the trade paperback and still don't have it, then that's a different story.

Re: Dark Regions Press

I wish I cou'd inform ye of what the hell is going on--but authors are usually the last to know. Jeff and I have sign'd ye signature sheets for the trade hardcover edition, so why that is not available (or if it is I know not) bewilders me. But moft frustrating is that I HAVE YET to sign the signature sheets for the deluxe hardcover edition. This is so frustrating for me as one of the book's authors. Jeff and I are so pleas'd with this book and ache to see it in ye hands of those extremely patient people who have order'd it. The situation has us so annoy'd that we have now promised our first Enoch Coffin novel to Larry Roberts and Arcane Wisdom Press rather than DRP as was our original intention.

The book is available in trade pb on Amazon, and while I'm happy that it is--that is ANOTHER source of annoyance, because the trade paperback should have been the LAST edition available, the first being the deluxe hardcover for which people have paid so much $$$. Alas, alas.

My thanx to all of you for your support of my writing. It is because of you that I continue.

That's disconcerting news, especially since Chris has been promising the book would ship by the end of the month.

Re: Dark Regions Press

Chris Morey has been pretty public about the tough time DRP is having. He recently took the company over from his father, and based on what I've read on Facebook, there were production problems already in place that he is trying to fix. The move to Portland seems to be further complicating things. I am waiting for my copy of "The Walls of the Castle," originally due quite a while ago.

Sorry to read Wilum's post, too. That is not encouraging.

Today DRP announced a moving sale, where all in-stock products are 50% off with the coupon code MOVINGSALE. I went to scoop up a couple of books I have been eyeballing (hello, Simon Strantzas) but can't get the code to work. "The coupon code you entered couldn't be applied to any items in your order." Tried it with some other books, same thing. As a reader and repeat customer, I find that pretty damn frustrating. Has anyone else successfully used the discount code?

Re: Dark Regions Press

Sam-

I was getting an error with that coupon code for the first 20-30 minutes, then tried again and the coupon code went through OK. It might have been set up incorrectly at first.

Re: Dark Regions Press

Aha. Thanks Mike. Went back and tried again, and I am now the proud owner of a signed leather-bound Deluxe Lettered Hardcover edition of Herr Strantzas' "Cold To The Touch." Yippee!

I was able to use the coupon code with no problems. It's possible it's case-sensitive, are you entering it in all caps?

Re: Dark Regions Press

Word now is that Santiago has JUST NOW gotten the signature sheets for the deluxe edition, and Chris is going to have them sent to Jeff and I super-quick--but the book may still be held up for another two weeks. I think I have convinced Chris to bring out the regular hardcover edition NOW, so, we'll see...
