Re: Dark Regions Press

I received an email today from Dark Regions Press:

'Enoch Coffin is next in queue at the binder. Our binder is a small operation and can only work on one of our projects at a time, and they just recently finished The Walls of the Castle by Tom Piccirilli.

We anticipate to have Enoch Coffin in stock in July. We will ship all customer orders immediately upon receiving the product in stock.'

Re: Dark Regions Press

That's reasonably good news. I'm looking forward to that book! Also just ordered a ton of other stuff (including 3 by Jeffrey Thomas) with DRP's 50% off coupon.

Re: Dark Regions Press

I just received my huge box of Dark Regions books purchased during the closeout sale. Note that I live in Oregon, where DRP is located, so those of you who ordered around the same time may still have another few days' wait.

I grabbed hardcovers of the following:

Simon Strantzas - Cold to the Touch (lettered slipcased edition)
Gary McMahon - Tales of the Weak and Wounded
Allyson Byrd - Wine and Rank Poison
Allyson Byrd - Isis Unbound
Jeffrey Thomas - Thought Forms
Jeffrey Thomas - The Fall of Hades
Jeffrey Thomas - Nocturnal Emissions
Richard Gavin - The Darkly Splendid Realm

Re: Dark Regions Press

I actually got my box o' books yesterday, having placed my order the day the sale started. I live in South Carolina, for reference.

I picked up

A Host of Shadows by Harry Shannon (TPB)
Charnel Wine by Richard Gavin (TPB)
Gathered Dust and Others by W.H. Pugmire (TPB, signed)
Other Gods by Stephen Mark Rainey (S/N HC)
Tales of the Weak and Wounded by Gary McMahon (S/N HC)
Over the Darkening Fields by Scott Thomas (TPB, signed)
Quill and Candle by Scott Thomas (S/N HC)
The Garden of Ghosts by Scott Thomas (S/N HC)
Urn & Willow by Scott Thomas (S/N HC)

The folks at DRP were even kind enough to give me a matched number set of the Scott Thomas hardcovers.

Re: Dark Regions Press

slayn666,

Have you read any Scott Thomas? I have a formidable stack of books, a busy reading schedule, I have one of Scott Thomas' there, too (which I got free from a previous DRP order as a freebie). Is he worth reading?

I've read Scott Thomas's Urn & Willow and reviewed it here:

I've read The Sea of Flesh and Ash by the Brothers Thomas, and I felt Scott's half was better, but I've yet to read any of his short story collections.

Re: Dark Regions Press

I just wanted to revisit this topic. I made a second order during the sale, and compared to the experience detailed above, it's been like night and day. First, it took over three weeks for them to ship my order. I know they were moving their entire operation (hence the point of the sale), and usually I'd be more forgiving, but they were making frequent posts on Facebook stating that all sale orders were going out and whatnot, then moved on to talking about a new release shipping, all with no notification emails about my shipment. Perhaps the worst part is that they do a pretty good job about keeping your order status updated, so for three weeks I just saw the "Awaiting Shipment" message (as compared to the "Awaiting Fulfillment" message that greets me for Enoch Coffin, so I know the books were packed up and ready to go).

After three inquiries, my books shipped last week and arrived today. Mostly. I ordered the hardcover editions of both of Allyson Bird's books, but I was sent the paperback editions. What is most infuriating is that you can see on the included invoice where someone was physically marking off the books as they were packed, and it very clearly states that I should be getting the hardcovers.

I also didn't received the ARC of Holes for Faces they stated would be included with every order over $100, but at this point I just want to get what I actually paid for.

I've been ordering DRP books for years, but this experience has somewhat soured me. I can deal with delays, so long as customers are kept informed, because unfortunately that's just part of the business, so not having Enoch Coffin yet doesn't bother me that much. But all of the books in this latest order were in stock (that being the very reason for the sale, in fact), so there was no reason to sit on everything for three weeks and no reason not to send the correct books.

I won't go so far as to say I'll never order from DRP again, because I'm sure Chris and co. will make good, but this is definitely a strike against them.

Did anyone else receive Chris Morey's email from DRP? Wasn't sure if it was kosher to repost it here on the website

Re: Dark Regions Press

I received the rather lengthy email from Chris as well. What he has to say sounds promising for the future of DRP. However, I am somewhat paranoid now, as I received a confirmation of a package shipped to me on Monday, and I am hoping that when I actually receive it, I will not have been sent a paperback as opposed to hardcover copy for books that I ordered. We shall see, I suppose.
