Re: Bands You've Seen

Sadly, I haven't seen all that many bands play live in my lifetime. Here's all the ones I have seen:

-Sting (opening act: Cowboy Junkies) 1996 (went with my parents to this)
-Nine Inch Nails (opening Act: A Perfect Circle) 2000 (Providence, RI)
-Wesley Willis 2002 (Providence, RI)
-The Police (opening act: Fiction Plane) 2007 (Toronto)
-Madonna 2008 (Boston, MA)
-Adam Lambert (opening act: Allison Iraheta)2010 (Providence, RI)
-Lady Gaga (opening act: Semi-Precious Weapons) 2010 (Boston, MA)
-Madonna 2012 (Boston, MA)
-Nine Inch Nails (opening act: Godspeed, You Black Emperor!) 2013 (Boston, MA)

Re: Bands You've Seen

I used to see a lot of live music, so I can spend hours trying to remember all the shows I've seen and still forget important concerts.

I'll just spend a few minutes listing some of the most memorable:

Devo (my first concert, 1982, Oh No It's Devo tour - fantastic!)
Metallica (the first Monsters of Rock tour, Seattle)
Cocteau Twins (I fell asleep early and slept through most of it)
Sinead O'Connor (outdoor amphitheater in Salem, OR - amazing performer)
Oingo Boingo (front row at the Hult Center in Eugene, OR)
The Cure (very good show, Portland Civic Auditorium)
New Order (Hook was smashed, imagine that)
David Bowie (one of my favorite artists, but the Glass Spider tour was not great)
Duran Duran (opening for Bowie)
Thomas Dolby (tiny venue in Portland, late 80s, lots of fun)
Depeche Mode (highly irritating live show after they decided they were cocaine and heroin rock and rollers)
Bauhaus (90s reunion show, but very lively and satisfying)

The one concert I most regret missing a chance to go to:

The Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense tour... a friend of mine bought a block of tickets for a large group of friends, and for some reason misunderstood that I didn't want to go (when in fact I was a rabid fan) and allocated the last available ticket just minutes before he spoke with me about it. Sadness. Two dozen of my good friends got to go together to one of the greatest concerts of their lives while I sat alone in my dorm room waiting for them to come back and tell me about it.

And I'm absolutely sure I've forgotten some very important shows, and that in a few minutes after posting this I'll think, "How could I have possibly forgotten to list ___?"

Re: Bands You've Seen

For example, I forgot Lustmord and Neurosis, the last really good concert I attended, at NecronomiCon Providence in 2013.

Something's seriously wrong with my brain.

Re: Bands You've Seen

Oh, Cowboy Junkies. I would love to see them live. I adore that band; Margo Timmins is the most beautiful singer of all time, both physically and in her singing, the ethereal quality of it.

By the way, one of the weirdest (in a good way) bands I've seen are The Doors of the 21st Century in 2003, with Ian Astbury singing.

Your fall should be like the fall of mountains. But I was before mountains. I was in the beginning, and shall be forever. The first and the last. The world come full circle. I am not the wheel. I am the hand that turns the wheel. I am Time, the Destroyer. I was the wind and the stars before this. Before planets. Before heaven and hell. And when all is done, I will be wind again, to blow this world as dust back into endless space. To me the coming and going of Man is as nothing.

Mystifier as in the Afro-Brazillian black metal band? If so, I'm impressed!

Some memorable ones for me:

Neurosis
Swans
Carcass
Emperor
Enslaved
Opeth
Mastodon
Negura Bunget (old lineup)
Sleep
Sunn o))))
Alice in Chains
Tryptikon
Yes, Mystifer from Brazil. Saw them in november 2013, they only played songs from their first two albums, it was a killer show.

The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, Joy Division, Mayhem (second time they rehearsed together - I was peering in through the window), the Buddy Holly gig I went to back in the day was good too

Re: Bands You've Seen

GG Allin (I was hospitalized "for observation" after that one)
Sly and the Family Stone (but Sly never showed up, which I guess made it an authentic experience)
the five-man Pink Floyd, just after they added David Gilmour and Syd was still with the band, sort of
J. Geils Band (the time when Lester Bangs played the typewriter)

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

Re: Bands You've Seen

- A lot of great responses on here, many of which are making me regret that I've only been regularly attending shows for a decade now; c'est la vie!

I am quite looking forward to seeing Spoon in May; they've been a favorite for years and years now; also, a visiting psych-rock from Chile called The Holydrug Couple definitely sounds promising as well.

Re: Bands You've Seen

Hospitalized? What the Hell happened? I know GG Allin was pretty wild, but I am curious about what happened to you.
