The interesting thing about this quote is that, while it never directly addresses the concept, it resonates quite eerily with the running theme in early Ligotti of the treachery of images: That all objects are simply a frail front for a greater ineffable and self-consuming formlessness that may be revealed by the simple failure of the suspension of disbelief or the involuntary and accidental violation of the pretences of natural law. To have borne witness to such things is the private hell of the cosmic accident victim.

sadly, i have not read that story. however, i hope to correct this omission very soon...

the quote reminds me of one of my first LSD experiences. it felt like a waking dream and that night I was dreaming some conversation with god. i can't remember just how or why, but he imparted a great wisdom to me that i will never forget: everybody suffers.
