I agree. My real-time review of the Wyckoff book: BLACK HORSE and Other Strange Stories
As an aside to this thread, another new writer with his first publication - Alex Miles - will, I'm absolutely sure be loved by those on TLO and by those whoe enjoy Tartarus, Chomu and Ex Occidente books. Here is my real-time review (still ongoing) of his collection (an ebook): Glory & Splendour – Alex Miles

Glory and Splendour also has a foreword or introduction by Michel Parry, no less, a great anthologist and top geezer. I heard from Mr Parry that Alex Miles is one to watch, so am not surprised to find him contributing an intro.

Re: Tartarus Contemporary Fiction Series

I just read Five Degrees of Latitude, a recent Tartarus Contemporary Fiction title, and recommend it highly. My review is here.

Noonday Stars: a blog about horror fiction. Recent content includes essay on the new edition of Ligotti's The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein and Other Gothic Tales.

I agree Brendan, Reynier did an outstanding job with this collection. I'm starting to just order Tartarus's Contemporary Fiction books as soon as they come out on pre-order. They've had some outstanding collections.

Re: Tartarus Contemporary Fiction Series

Don't think this falls under Contemporary but Tartarus just announced that they are publishing a new collection of Thomas Owen which should include The Desolate Presence in addition to several stories that haven't been translated into English. Looks great

Re: Tartarus Contemporary Fiction Series

Got in the new re-issue of Thomas Owen when I got back in town. It looks immaculate and Iain White's translation is great from the small part I have been able to get through so far. VERY good job with this book as usual

Re: Tartarus Contemporary Fiction Series

The next two books from Tartarus Press are by Mark Valentine. Both will be published in signed, numbered editions:

. . . . . .
Herald of the Hidden collects ten adventures of Ralph Tyler, an occult detective from an obscure shire in the darkest heart of England, without private means or any special esoteric knowledge. Mark Valentine’s Ralph Tyler stories first appeared in hard-to-find small press publications. Three of the stories in this volume are previously unpublished, including two newly written for this collection. Along with six further supernatural tales, all the stories are previously uncollected in book form.

. . .
Star Kites is Mark Valentine’s first collection of poems, and draws on the sources that have inspired his acclaimed short stories—oneiric and otherworldly, and inexplicably beautiful. The poems evoke half-lit figures and images, seen in smoke, shadow, sun-haze and stone, and moments when the visible world does not quite cohere. Also offered are versions of poems by previously unheard European voices.

For those who have ordered Herald of the Hidden and Star Kites, we aim to match up the numbers in both books.

Regarding Herald of the Hidden, I'm very happy and relieved to see that you haven't abandoned the classic Tartarus dust jacket illustration style altogether. I must admit that I've always enjoyed those b/w illustrations more than the newer, coloured paintings, which are found on, for instance, Clarimonde.

Excellent news, by the way.
