Re: Preferred Mode of Oblivion

A red wine buzz every now and then, sleeping and dreaming, listening to music with headphones, and reading weird and horror fiction. Also watching John Carpenter's THE THING with a bottle of scotch late at night.

Re: Preferred Mode of Oblivion

I was suffering from back pain recently due to an accident and I was prescribed Oxycodone. I was never a drug user of any kind and did not see the allure. But once I took the pill a few times, and the pain went away, and I was able to lay in bed, as relaxed as I had been in years, I suddenly got it. I understood. For that reason, I made myself stop taking it. It is a road I could too easily have gone down and never come back from. That particular road, I decided, wasn't for me.

Now, I still try to achieve some degree of tranquility through silence and music. Sometimes I simply run a fan in a darkened room for white noise, at or times I try light ambient music. Music, from the prior posts I have read, seem to be one of the most popular techniques for temporary oblivion. At that point, I lay down, try not to move, and let me mind "settle" or quiet down. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
