Re: McCarthyism - Has it Hit the Horror Writers Association?
Incidentally I am happy for people in the genre writing world to be right-wing. I am not left-wing. I am a libertarian. Real libertarians follow the rules of libertarianism: maximum freedom for everyone. You can't be a libertarian and a racist. The two things don't go together. Racists want to limit the freedoms of other races. Limiting the freedom of racists, however, creates more freedom, in the same way that a negative integer multiplied by another negative integer results in a positive sum.
Some limiting actions create more freedom. Limiting the number of cages in existence, for example.

I thought you and Allyson had made the tumblr. Whoever collected that information or made the tumblr, I wouldn't consider it stalking or wrongdoing at all. I was looking for something like that after the Weirdbook controversy, it taken me a while to find it and I liked the tumblr and think it should have been seen by more people.

Clearly Thomas Ligotti should steer clear of certain folks, lest they terminate his life to "show respect" for his antinatalist beliefs. I suppose that goes for religious folks as well, because anyone who really believes there's a paradise on the other side of death . . . well, you'd be doing them a favor by sending them early, right?
No, tartaru called this correctly. One cannot act like a psychopath, blame their actions on the victims of their psychopathy, and then "revert back to normal". At that point their normal is a psychopath with lots of excuses and no sense of personal responsibility.

Yeah, but your agenda seems to be more about defending racists than castigating them. You are off-message and using trivial distractions to try to take the discussion off on a tangent. Racism is wrong. You should agree with this with a simple clear statement that contains no extras. Let's not have distractions. Racism is wrong. Riley is wrong. There's no way past this.

Racism is wrong. Yet a fascist blaming his fascism upon other fascists is still a fascist.

> ...a witch hunt over thirty year old political affiliations.
Those thirty year old political affiliations are still going on. They have been going on for thirty years. > Yet a fascist blaming his fascism upon other fascists is still a fascist. All that matters is that fascism is destroyed. You agree with this, or not? A clear statement on this would be nice. Because there are so many people trying to go off on tangents on this issue.

I think it's about time I re-read the history of China under Mao.

If someone knocked on my door and said, "If you don't let me in it proves you've got something to hide", I'd say, "Who the #### are you?"
The writing scene has become utterly disgusting. Perhaps it always was.

Re: McCarthyism - Has it Hit the Horror Writers Association?
I still don't know what to make of this thread. I mean, this really isn't an issue of right-wingers in general being discriminated against by a regressive leftist establishment. This is the questioning of a white supremacist's ability to be impartial when on a panel judging the merit of authors whose number includes those from minorities he may discriminate against due to their race.
I know I'm often way out of step here with the thinking when it comes to political correctness (which I am also often critical of), but this thread has puzzled me even more than the usual ones. If Riley's books or appreciation of his work were to be banned, then I would be annoyed by this. As it is, I don't think being able to vote for who gets a horror award is a fundamental human right, and I don't understand why I'm being asked to be outraged that people are supposedly discriminating against somebody whose belief system is based on arbitrarily discriminating against people. There is no dangerous precedent or Maoist/Orwellian foreshadowing here. A group of people are shunning one of its members for being horrible to others. Except it seems they aren't, judging by the response of the organisation, so nothing is happening, and TLO are once more incensed by free speech being stifled because other people exercise their free speech. Rinse and repeat. |

Re: McCarthyism - Has it Hit the Horror Writers Association?
Well, no one here has to condemn racism if they don't want to. But it seems a very simple thing to do, so I'm not sure what the problem is. It doesn't require much energy.
People seem happier to expend more energy making distracting comments about why they shouldn't have to condemn racism. That seems a bit weird to me. Dodgy even.
