Good Tom Go Lightly

So maybe I wasn't paying attention when this originally went up, but who is responsible for this? It kinda reminds me of Leonard Cohen. I was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you.

and then Alice came on and I was reminded of other, different fond old memories.

Re: Good Tom Go Lightly

Someone is listening to MusicBox! I have fully intended to outline the contents, which are subject to change, but have not managed to as of yet. For now, you must rummage on your own and hopefully find something new to your liking.

Dan Layman-Kennedy is the singer/songwriter responsible for "Good Tom-Go-Lightly, as well as "Washed Away" from within the root directory of MusicBox. The song is a tribute to Tom, of course, and was at one time available on mp3.com along with an artist description, though it has long since disappeared from there. Dr. Locrian may be able to shed further light onto the matter.

As for SOM's "Alice", I simply had to embed the gem to accompany the arrival of Alice to FlashChat. I was somewhat of a Goth myself back in the eighties, though not so much for the fashion as the for the music. I do recall having a wardrobe comprised of almost entirely of black, but I never doused myself in makeup or embraced the whole of the pretention. Not that makeup and pretentions are altogether without taste, mind you, they simply would have been unwarranted trappings for one that seldom breached the confines of a singular room.

Re: Good Tom Go Lightly

I just discovered in my search for Dan Layman-Kennedy that he is a member of TLO. In respect to his privacy, I will not divulge his membership name and will instead allow him to comment if he wishes. Thanks for the great song, Dan!

I still have the mp3 of this song from when Dan first made it available on the Web and brought it to the attention of TLOers several years ago. I dearly love the piece and still listen to it occasionally. And like Adam, I hadn't noticed that you had made it available on the current site, Brian. Good show.

Re: Good Tom Go Lightly

This song is indeed a very touching tribute to Tom. I'd like to download it if possible. And if not, could I ask one of you to send it to me via email?

Re: Good Tom Go Lightly

I,too, have returned to this song once in awhile over the years here on TLO. It really is a nice tribute and stylistically appropriate. Somehow, I always picture Ligottian music (if there is such a thing) as being either dark ambient or folksy like this piece. But, hey, there's plenty of room to experiment! Maybe someone will release a pop or hip hop tribute to Tom that knocks us all flat.
