Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

From the "Notes on Contributors" section in the new Tartarus Press anthology Dark World:

Quote
A collection of his [e.g. Valentine's] tales featuring Ralph Tyler, occult detective (and other stories), Herald of the Hidden, is due from Tartarus Press in 2013
.

Very good news - are these new stories featuring a new occult detective or is this old, unavailable/uncollected material?

Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

At least some of the Ralph Tyler stories date back to the late 1980s.

Noonday Stars: a blog about horror fiction. Recent content includes essay on the new edition of Ligotti's The Agonizing Resurrection of Victor Frankenstein and Other Gothic Tales.

Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

Finished my review of STAR KITES by Mark Valentine. Star Kites s Gestalt Real-Time Reviews

I don’t read as much poetry as I used to do in the past, but this book has encouraged me to mend my ways. Highly recommended – and deserves to win poetry awards, not only for the poems themselves, but also for the concept of Versions and the sharing with us of a Gestalt Europe, a Secret Continent of Poetry as language tugs at language.

Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

In 1983, on my Zennor Hill tape label, I released a recording of the sea off Cornwall and the lighthouse foghorn echoing in the coves. I'd lost my copy, but was delighted to find it has been played often of late on Basic FM, an adventurous net radio station, interested in "Broadcast Art, Sound and Independent Culture", who have also blogged about it :

Box under the bed: The Sound of the Sea (C60) |

Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

I'm eager to hear this tape. I asked the fellow who did the posting to possibly make me a copy. Hopefully he will digitize it, do you think it will compromise the integrity of the sounds? What kind of equipment did you use when you were doing the initial field recording, Sand?

Re: Mark Valentine (and John Howard)

From what I've heard, the sounds are as good as they ever were, but the tape hiss and wind wailing are all part of the vintage listening experience! I most favour the final 20 minutes of the foghorn echoing in the coves.

That sounds wonderful. I remember hearing foghorns when I was a small child living in Walton-on-the-Naze.
