Which is why threads often degenerate into discussion of racism, politics and so on, or why some major weird fiction figures like Nicolay think what they think of your community or warn others against joining it.
Zero interest in what Nicolay thinks.

So far I only see one misanthropy thread, maybe two or three pessimist threads, and that one antinatalist thread with passion overdosed.

Just doing my bit, small though it is, to help the boards become more misanthropic:

Re: Things You Hate About TLO

Name calling and such just seems typical of internet boards everywhere, especially when people really care about the topic.

But back to the topic at hand. What I hate about the TLO board is that allot of members seem to be smarter than I am and are certainly better informed about philosophical matters. I'm used to being the smartest person in the room, so that's kind of irritating.

Oh, I also don't like the fact that I've been exposed to some excellent authors, which causes me to spend money I don't have on books that I'm proud to own. I'm not sure where that falls on the hate scale, probably pretty low.

Other than that, hugz all around!

Put your faith in God; he won't expect you.
Put your faith in death, because it's free.
If you believe in nothing, honey, it believes in you.

Nicolay's a major figure? I didn't get the memo.

All the things I dislike about TLO – such as the hypocrisy and pretentiousness of some – are aspects of humanity as a whole I find everywhere. There is nothing specific to this forum that bothers me.

Re: Things You Hate About TLO

With Strength I Burn wrote: "Finally, reposting the rules to indicate this is a forum for weird and pessimistic literature, rather than discussions of certain individuals' characters or polarized political topics, would rectify the issue. Enforcing these rules more rigorously is necessary, I feel."

I couldn't agree more with these sentiments. I find 99.9 % of the posters here a true pleasure to read and their inspired comments provide much food for thought. The site is an invaluable resource for writers of the Weird and for those who love their work.

In my own limited experience, the number of individuals who choose to directly attack and name call other members over perceived political differences is very small. Still, it used to frustrate me until I found the "blocking members" feature. A true blessing! I highly recommend anyone thinking of leaving the site due to a poster's personal attacks to first avail themselves of this option.

This clip seems to me to have some relevance to the discussion.
