Holy Terrors: a DVD w. 6 Machen stories

Re. an announcement on Tartarus Books about their December 16 publication of a new softbound collection of 6 Arthur Machen stories, in honor of the release of a new film portraying the same, from Obselete Films.

First, here is a vimeo trailer for the film itself:

First trailer for ‘Holy Terrors’, a portmanteau feature film telling six stories by the Victorian master of ‘weird fiction’ Arthur Machen.

And here is a link to the announcement on Tartarus:

Contains: ‘The Cosy Room’, ‘The White Powder’, ‘The Bowmen’, ‘Ritual’, ‘The Happy Children’, ‘Midsummer’, ‘Afterword’, ‘The Friends of Arthur Machen’.

Re: Holy Terrors: a DVD w. 6 Machen stories

FYI here's the (dated) crowdfunding site for the film project. Noticed that one of their sites (and Tartarus) now says "six stories" and this older one says "four." It will be interesting to see the finished film.

HOLY TERRORS: THE FANTASTIC WORLDS OF ARTHUR MACHEN

We're looking to match fund the £10 000 already raised to produce a portmanteau feature film of four of cult supernatural writer Arthur Machen's stories.

Would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on this, once you've seen it, as I've been tempted to order it myself.

It's a noble effort. Well shot and atmospheric. The Cosy Room was redolent of Val Lewton's The Seventh Victim, but I thought by far the best realised were Novel of the White Powder and The Happy Children.

Criticisms? I have a few. The Cosy Room was missing its climax, and the ending to Midsummer lacked the otherworldliness of Machen's story, but otherwise I was mostly satisfied with the film and would check out more by the team.

Thanks for the review James, it sounds very nice, I will pick up the disc at my earliest opportunity.
