Re: Original Quotes

Honesty is always a dubious proposition. The following story related by my friend Chas demonstrates this.

Chas had not seen his ex-lover for nearly twenty years when she turned up at his doorstep.
Moved perhaps by some vague sentiment , some inexplicable nostalgia for the past, she had sought him out; and unknowingly, he answered his doorbell to this unexpected visitor. Who can blame him that he spontaneously, honestly, blurted out the following words in shock:

"My God, you put on all the weight I lost!"

Honesty.
From that point on things went downhill fast.

Re: Original Quotes

There is a world of thought. And there is a physical world as well.
Only in madness do we find perfect correlation between these two.

Life ####s me raw and I never climax.

This is my life. This is my damnation. This is my only regret--that I ever was born.

This can be in a NIN song.

"So in the end it remains advisable to accept whatever comes, to behave like an inert mass even if one feels oneself being swept away, not to be lured into a single unneccesary step, to regard others with the gaze of an animal, to feel no remorse, in short to crush with one's own hand any ghost of life that subsists, that is, to intensify the final quiet of the grave still further and let nothing beyond that endure." ---Franz Kafka, Resolutions

Re: Original Quotes

The Summoned Thing, horned, scaled and massive, regarded the necromancer with strange and intense intent long before the roar of its demonic voice boomed:

"You bungled the first half of the incantation, Holcroft...but not the second. I'm not Helen of Troy but I am horny as Hell!"

(Ok, this is a version of one of my old cartoons published in Science Fiction Review. Sue me.)

"Nasty, brutish, and short," said the philosopher.

"But I have money," said the man.

Re: Original Quotes

"Each sunset brings with it a desperation, laying bare the feeble hold on life. With its slow slip below the horizon and its colors like drying blood staining the sky, I am primal man, understanding my abjectly powerless state to halt forces I cannot understand. Thus, he made fire. Yet for all my railing against the inevitable, the stars shine in mockery of whatever horrors occur here, holding their own special coldness. And the strange moon, that reveals itself cautiously, then hangs large and white, casting its sickly light on diseased streets and cities."

“Evolution cannot avoid bringing intelligent life ultimately to an awareness of one thing above all else and that one thing is futility.”

Re: Original Quotes

To understand all is to forgive all.

Well, no. Not quite.

Some crimes are just unforgivable. Why?

Simple. They reveal too much of the nature of the men who committed them.

Re: Original Quotes

"You were never the object of my affection. I was the one who gave you form. The dress you wear, the one which makes you appear so lovely, was fashioned by my own hands, so give it back and step aside, my darling!"

"In a less scientific age, he would have been a devil-worshipper, a partaker in the abominations of the Black Mass; or would have given himself to the study and practice of sorcery. His was a religious soul that had failed to find good in the scheme of things; and lacking it, was impelled to make of evil itself an object of secret reverence."

~ Clark Ashton Smith, "The Devotee of Evil"

Re: Original Quotes

"From even the greatest of horrors, irony is seldom absent."

To address the symptoms of modern life is useless; the underlying cause remains out of reach.

Simply put, we are living in an accelerated world not designed for us.

The irony is apparent indeed.

We are the Designers.
