Thomas Ligotti in THE BOOK OF LISTS: HORROR

"Thomas Ligotti's Ten Classics of Horror Poetry" is to appear within THE BOOK OF LISTS: HORROR by Scott Bradley, Amy Wallace, and Del Howison. A quotation from Ligotti's "Consolations of Horror" essay also provides one of the epigraphs for THE BOOK OF LISTS: HORROR.

This book features lists relating to the horror genre, contributed by many notables. The book will be released by HarperCollins on 16 September 2008, and is available for pre-order on

.

Re: Thomas Ligotti in THE BOOK OF LISTS: HORROR

I received my copy of this today. (Buying books for a small fraction of their contents is one reason I have too many books and too little money.)

I'll refrain from revealing too much, but I did find it interesting that T.L included "In the Court of the Crimson King" in his list. Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised that the Yellow Jester would include this. He writes that "the impression is that of sardonic grandeur."

Also in the book, Ramsey Campbell has a list of "Thirteen Novels on the Edge of Horror," one of which is Samuel Beckett's The Unnameable. Campbell says that Beckett's novel is "best read in a single sitting"!!!!! I would regard this as impossible, and the attempt might even be deleterious to one's mental health (such as it is). I have read The Unnameable, and as I recall it took many sittings, due to the book's length and density. This is a book that will induce claustrophobia even in one who normally has claustrophilia. I needed to come up for air frequently. Ramsey Campbell must have capacities that I don't have. (Well, I guess I knew that already.)
